I have a Sony Ericsson W380i on Virgin PAYG.
I've set my phone up to receive emails but I can't seem to send them.
I know the SMTP settings are correct as they are the same I use on my PC.
Do Virgin use it's own SMTP server?

No. There's no Virgin SMTP server - they don't provide a SMTP server so you
will have to use one provided by an existing service. Virgin provide very
little in terms of services above and beyond voice calls (even then there is
no divert option) and basic GPRS (they don't provide a conventional portal
service either).
Gmail is one option although there are documented problems with using SE
phones to connect to Gmail. Something to do with installing the required
certificates. There are solutions but it is a problem you may (or may not)
encounter.

Then they are wrong.

They will. I don't know what it is.

It might be worth trying T-Mobile's SMTP server. When Virgin's GPRS was
playing sillies a few years back I got messages on my handset instead of
the page I wanted, to call T-Mobile's customer services and gave a phone
number.
(They were quite confused when I did call them. But shortly afterwards
the fault vanished.)

So does your PC connect to the internet via Virgin mobile?

They most definitely are wrong.
Why do people ask questions then tell people that they know better then
to listen to the answers?
I was going to help you with this problem, but your attitude has
undermined my motivation to help.

No. You can now send emails. You still have an attitude problem. That's
far more of a problem.

Right, so your setting were wrong, weren't they?
I doubt you have the grace to apologise for your bad attitude, but
calling someone a **** is guranteed to ensure that you'll not get helped
in future.
By now, I expect you'll have pissed off - you only came here to get
something for yourself, not to help others.

Some people don't want to be helped.
What sort of dick head is it that assumes that their PCs email SMTP settings
will be the same as their phones?!

Why wouldn't the settings be the same for the same account? Authentication
requirements, authentication protocols and the ip address of the relevant
server shouldn't change just because the client hardware changes.
The problem for the op is probably (but not definitely) connected with the
fact that most ISPs also check the ip address of the client and only allow
sending from ip addresses in the ISP's range. Some ISPs are also using
"From" header content checking to force the "From" line to correspond to an
email address within the ISPs domain.
To answer the op's question (again) - Virgin does not provide a SMTP account
for its customers.
