Intelligent input needed.
I have found O2 to be fantastic generally, while virgin Mobile are
getting worse every day since NTL took them over. So I want to make
the move to O2.
What do you think of O2 mobile and could you give me any advice on
their pay as you go tariffs?
Thanks

I've had no major issues in the 2 years that I've been with them on
contract.
For PAYG I chose Tesco which is a virtual network using o2 over o2
directly as they are only used to call a few numbers, and Tesco's
direct dial international rates are better than o2's to the countries
we call. Also Tesco can block premium rate text which is useful these
days.

O2 customer service - not good, but not awful - free to ring up.
O2 billing - serial overcharging, but CS will correct mistakes (my latest
this weekend where rental has been charge twice for two months on the same
bill).
O2 contract compliance - biggest problem area - O2 simply will not stick to
a deal - much harder to get the CS to correct as the changes are often
"policy".
O2 Pay and Go - don't buy a lot of airtime up front. I had a "something
for the weekend" P&G and bought a lot of extra airtime one day. The
following day O2 unilaterally reduced the number of minutes that I had
bought by 60%.
Most of their P&G are now structured so that you have to top up by the
equivalent to a contract rental every month or it just stops working.

Tesco Mobile (uses O2 network) PAYG terms are the more usual 'use every 6
months or lose it'. 5 numbers can be half price text and calls.

All new P&G tariffs are subject to the following (1 June 2008)
http://www.o2.co.uk/termsconditions/yourairtimecontract
which contains:
"7. Our Rights to Bar or Disconnect Your Mobile Phone
7.1 If you do not make or receive a chargeable call at least once in any
6 month period your Mobile Phone will be disconnected and you will lose
any remaining credits balance on your Account. If you wish to be
re-connected after this time you will be given a new Mobile Phone number."
Which is basically as it has been for some time.

Blimey. I remember now why I joined Virgin 5 years ago.... they were
simple. O2 have so many different options and add ons and extras and
benifits and blah etc etc.
300 free texts for a month when you top up a tenner! Tempts me to get
a phone with a keyboard.
Thanks anyway everyone. I will be transferring my number to O2 on
Monday.
