    Hello all,

I always have UMA switched on on my BlackBerry. If I've no mobile coverage
with Orange, I can still send/receive email.

UMA is supposed to offer roaming between the mobile network and 802.11. I've
never had this working for voice however, but put it down to the fact that I
don't have Orange Broadband or one of their funny white routers at home. I
figured they must only support UMA if you used their kit.

Today though in a part of my house where I don't usually get mobile signal,
I noticed UMA in capitals on my handset. I was very surprised to see I could
make a call, which (I think) went over the wireless. I confirmed this by
switching off my wireless router mid-call and sure enough the call dropped.
Another test call and the result was the same. A short time after powering
off the router, the phone would go back to showing No Signal.

    So...

What's going on! :-) I've made no changes to my setup at all network wise.

Have Orange done something lately with UMA? Why's this started working
    today?

    Many thanks.

You can now (unofficially at the moment) use non-Orange broadband ISP's to
use Orange UMA services. Will be rolled out officially soon. At this moment
in time no support is being offered for it for non Orange ISP customers
    though.

Specific UMA bundles can be added to your Orange Account for things like
    unlimited landline calls etc.
