Hi,
A workmate received a text today claiming to be from 3 saying that on
the 4th of October her current mobile will no longer work with her sim
card, it told her to phone 0800 358 1665 where she would be able to
purchase a new phone.
Can anyone please confirm that 0800 358 1665 is indeed a 3 customer
support number and not some con artist (insert your own joke by there
if you want;-)
PS, I had a live chat with 3 customer support but they were unable to
divulge that kind of information.
Cheers,
Moose

As it's an 0800 number, why not ring it from a landline and find out..? I
doubt a con artist would bother to set up a freephone number somehow, but
I could be wrong.

Why not just phone 3 using the number on your statement?
And it's unlikely the message is from 3, why on earth would they use a
freephone number?

Seems to be a bona fide 3 call-centre.

An American might ask why they would not. Over there pretty well most
companies use freephone for customer contact/support.

I just rang the number and it sounds like the '3' woman does. Seems a
valid 3 number to me

Tell her (or yourself!) not to reply to any email from Lagos asking for
bank details in return for millions.
Why would you even NEED to ask such an odd question in a
newsgroup. Are you to thick to call the number from work?

You are nice, I have my reasons, it was a dodgy looking text.
By the way, it is "Are you TOO thick" not "TO thick".
I will bet those millions that I shouldn't send to the Lagos guys that
not in a million years would you have the bollocks to speak to me like
that face to face would you you little ****? You are hard as ****
behind your keyboard.
Also, why not go to this website where thousands of other users are too
thick to call a number http://whocallsme.com/.

It is most definitely a con. The only way her service would stop were if
she herself instructed 3 to end the contract. Do not call it back.

You are wrong. The cost of setting up an 0800 number is trivial compared
to the profits to be had from such an operation.

Is she using the 3 SIM in a 3 phone or one that is set to 2g use only?

If that was a joke you failed miserably.

It wasn't a joke - when I was a Three customer I got charged to ring
customer services, which was an 0870 number.

Profit, from an 0800 number?
