It's quite sad that the media, whenever they see a phone with a
touch-screen, call it an iPhone rival. Oh, the screen is black and
there are ICONS on it, therefore it looks like the iPhone... My
Windows Vista desktop has icons on it, does this make it an iPhone
rival too?

Rather like "podcast" - iPods aren't the only music players. But then I
suppose it sounds better than mp3cast.

I think "podcast" is used like "stove" and "hoover" are, even if your
cooker isn't a stove and your cleaner isn't a hoover.

Why is it used like "stove"? The word "stove" didn't originate as the
brand name used by a cooker manufacturer.

Because Oxford University Press say "Podcast is a portmanteau word (=
two words that are combined to make a new word) that was invented in
2004. It combines the words iPod(TM), a well-known music player and
broadcast"
Therefore Podcast is a reference to an iPod, even though they play on
pretty much anything.

Indeed it looks awsome, but is it any good as, say, a phone?
After having Nokia's for years, I suspect my 6120 might be my last
unless they can start getting the phone bits right

Looks interesting, but as always depends on how good/bad the OS is.
Still if it can do simple stuff like copy & paste it will beat the
over-hyped iPhone hands down LOL

Right, I realise that, but why are the word "stove" and "cooker"
connected in that way?

They're connected in the same way that "hoover" and "vacuum cleaner"
are. "I'm going to do the hoovering" even if one is using a cleaner
(or hoover?) which isn't a Hoover. And for stove... A stove was a
heater, but Stove made cookers, so now even if one doesn't have a
Stove branded cooker one will often find people "putting it on the
Stove" when they're not using a water/etc. heater, but a cooker.

That's my whole point. The word "stove" didn't originate as a brand
name of any product, neither did it originate as a company name. There
never was any company called "Stove" that produced "Stove" branded
cookers.
Its a generic name originally used to describe a room for heating
things, and later for a device for cooking.

I'm terribly sorry to have caused you so much distress. But Hoover
still stands.

You need to speak to Chris about this, he's quite worried by the whole
thing.
