Can you still use Thuraya satellite phones with a UK Vodafone contract
SIM. The last time I tried my sat phone (about 3 months ago) it worked
fine. Trying it today, the phone shows a reasonable satellite signal
strength but doesn't show any network (normally shows "Thuraya UK") on
the screen. On trying to make a call it comes back with the message
"Restricted Service". Has the roaming agreement ended is is it just a
temporary technical problem with Thuraya (network overloaded by
squaddies calling from Iraqistan)? Anyone else with a sat phone having
problems connecting?

I hope the roaming agreement hasn't ended. Vodafone UK is still listed
as a roaming partner on Thuraya's website.
Anyway it looks like someone else is having similar problems today -
I've just Googled and found this thread on Vodafone's website -
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.ph...298&hl=thuraya
He's called Voafone customer services and (surprise, surprise) they've
never heard of Thuraya. The bloke on Voda's website is going to look
into the problem. It seems that Orange SIMs still work so a network
change is always an option if Voda roaming is no more.
