I have a database of contacts that I would like to get into the phone.

The only way so far has been to build a csv file, import it into an
empty wab file (Windows Address Book) and sync that to the phone.

There are lots of fields on the phone that are not in the wab, so I
would much rather build a csv file and import that directly into the
    phone.

    Can that be done?

Have you tried the 'Contacts' facility in Nokia PC Suite? It has file import
and export in csv, txt and vcf formats. You might need to do an export to
find out what order the fields should be in.

    Can't find it

I know I am only a poor computer consultant who specialises in designing
user-friendly software, but the quality of today's software seems to be
written for brains built differently from mine.

I can find everything under the sun - Photo/Video/Music/Internet/Update
    Manager/Software updater/left-turn arrow.....

Anything to do with "phone" facilities? - nowhere to be found.

    Sounds just what I want.

    Thanks.

Nokia PC Suite 7.0.8.2 from the Nokia web site.

Click on 'File' then select 'Contacts' from the drop down list

I know its confusing. Its the address book icon with the phone symbol
on it. If you mouse-over it it shows up as "Contacts". Whoever would
have expected it to be there?

    Thank - installed.

When I installed the original from the CD it did ask whether to check
for a new version and it reported back that there was none

Just two more question (for the moment).

    1. Is there a way to show the contacts list on the phone with the
address as well as the name? I have many entries with the same name and
without an address to chose from it is a bit difficult.

    2. When viewing the contacts list there is a find box at the bottom.
According to what I have read typing in a letter should take me to the
first entry starting with that letter.

Instead it filters on that letter - so typing "d" shows all names
    containing a "d" - even those starting with "a"

Is there a way to change the behaviour?

    Thanks.

I've just installed PC Suite 7.0.8.2 as per Michael's advice.

It prompted to install some software on the phone and I agreed.

Coming back half an hour later I found the PC install hanging - nothing
on the screen just the icon in the task bar that would not pop-up.

Just before killing it I though I would check the phone and there it was
waiting for me to press "continue". If I produced commercial software
like that I would be broke!

The standard view that I have does just that.

    See View; Customise View

On my PC the find box is in the top right corner!

    Try View; Filter by Name; d;

Sorry - I think I have confused you. My query relates to options on the
phone not in the PC Contacts application. Do such options (as you
listed below) exist on the phone itself?

Ah - I don't know, I actually have an E65 anyway, although as it is a
Symbian it may well be similar.

Thanks anyway. With the Import facility in the Contacts software I
should be able to build the "name" field just the way I want.
