Anyone have a 3 Skypephone S2 (Amoi 8512) and use Gmail?

As mentioned in many places, when trying to access the inbuilt Gmail
application on the Skype Phone S2 you get the error:
"Sorry, Gmail does not work on your Amoi 8512"

Well, I plucked up the courage and put myself through the hell of
calling the 3 call centre. My GOD I hate Indian call centres so much
it's not even true. Put on hold 3 times, twice for over 4 minutes
each, just to be asked the same questions over and over again. Really
basic questions like a child might ask. ("Is your phone switched on?
Is the sim inserted?")

So, having explained it REALLY clearly, he then told me that no other
customers had this problem and there were no known issues with the
phone and the Gmail application. Oh, what, would that be the
application that DOESN'T EXIST?!

He then started on the crap about resetting my phone, at which point
after 19 minutes I got a bit rude and hung up. What a rude man, not
listening or understanding the problem. How very rude is that? I get
this so much with three call centres, and about 3 times a year I write
to head office and they write back nonsense about "improving training
and customer service".
Oh good, they'll be getting some retarded monkeys in will they?

Sorry, rant over - I needed that! Still doesn't get the application
working though...so, everyone with this problem, please just take a
moment to call in and log the issue. Thanks!

I use Googlemail on my laptop using my Nokia 6630 as a 3 Modem

I use SSL ports 465 for SMTP, and SSL port 995 for pop3

Try using those ports

I've not got this phone, but when I get problems on 3 I find it easiest
to walk into a 3 shop and get then to sort it. The shops are owned by 3,
so it's not like you're asking an independent to sort out someone else's
problem.

The shops seem to be able to talk directly to "useful" support staff,
and (from my experience) as long as you don't go in on a Saturday they
are happy for you to push off shopping for half a n hour and leave them
the phone to sort out
