    As far as I know they can't easily tell for sure but they'll be expecting
    you to transfer only relatively small amounts of data and the FUP will
    probably get you if you do anything serious in the way of using your phone
    as a modem.

    It's not clear but I'd be very surprised if it was whether you use it or
    not.

    Really? I took it to be a kind of data bundle, so you effectively pay a
    fixed amount for unlimited data ('fair' usage policy notwithstanding).

    That's very interesting info, as my 'requirements' are pretty much the
    same as the OP's - my Orange contract charges me 3 GBP/Mb!

    Just to add another query - if I was to add another criterion of being
    able to roam as well, what would be the best option then? (Had a look
    at Asda's site, but there's no details of roaming data rates.)

    Currently I use my phone as a bluetooth modem, but (particularly if I
    increase my usage) I'd prefer a standalone USB modem but know absolutely
    nothing about them... any recommendations or sources of info please?
