I recently took advantage of a free asda sim card deal.

In the quickstart guide it says that once you enter the card into your
phone, you need to make a call so you can start receiving calls ( a way
of activating calls i think )

whenever i try to make a call however, even when to their own 2732
helpline number, it says "wrong number" for every number i try.

stranger still, i can receive calls even though this hasnt been
"activated" i can also receive and send text messages

    please help, kim x

p.s. my phone is NOT locked to a service provider.

Are they free now, I thought they were 50 pence?

    Have you looked at this?

    http://www.asda-mobile.com/?node_id=1.10

There's a land line number to ring if nothing there works.

Also always worth trying cleaning your sim card and reinserting it. We've
had phones do funny things like this that have just turned out to be a dodgy
    contact with the sim card.

    Hi

I've just had the same problem. I rang ASDA and they told me that
they have a batch of sim cards with dodgy phone numbers; I think they
start with 07552 or 07553. Try putting *#100* into you phone and
pressing 'Call' (or whatever you press to make a call). After a bit,
the phone number should pop up in a screen.

If it is a dodgy one, all you can do is go back to the shop and get it
exchanged. It's probably a good idea to check your number with the
    new sim in the shop.

    Cheers, Rich

That code is not quite right,
    its *#100#[send]
Only works on Vodafone, which I assume includes ASDA.
