That's right I have received a second text off them stating,
"you have not used your mobile for 365 days, if it is not used
within the next thirty days we may cut it off".

The first time I got one of these (about a month ago) I rang them on 789
and after their Indian representative was through with her lies she said
she would mark the phone as in use or something to that effect.

Ok so it's a low use phone, just a handful of texts per year but that
doesn't give them the right to blackmail me in this way - I just received
another harassing text off them today.

Perhaps they'd like me to waste another 10p listening to their Indian call
center speel/lies about the service and how I haven't used it for 365 days?

Well duh! I don't think so! Not when it costs me nothing to post what I
    think of them on here.

I suggest you seek some legal advice, that must be the worst case of harassment and blackmail ever - you're sure to get a healthy pay-out.

BTW, If I was Virgin mobile I'd want rid of you too.

So are you saying it's not true, and you have used it in the last year?
What other lies did they tell you?

In what way are they 'blackmailing' you? They're not even asking for
money(well, I suppose the cost of sending one SMS message...)
They are reminding you that under the terms and conditions of your (PAYG)
contract with them, if you don't use your phone for an extended period of
time, they reserve the right to disconnect you, and reclaim the number.
Otherwise, how could they deal with the case where somone has started using
a PAYG SIM, and then (say)decided to change to another service, and just
thrown the old SIM in the bin...

I'd hardly call that harrasment, it's a polite reminder, that's all...

Vodafone wouldn't have sent you that, you'd have come to use it and it
would be dead, as would most of the other networks.

They said I had not used my phone in 365 days (which is false). They said
I would have my phone disconnected if it was not used in the next thirty
days. I use my phone about once a month for the odd text. I receive a fair
few texts each month though. And I( was mistaken about the number of these
harassing texts they have sent - it's three now.

I explained this on the phone to them. It certainly seems like a form of
    black mail to me.

    Ditto.

If the most harassing thing that ever happens to you is that the phone
company say they'll cut you off if you don't make a call within 30 days,
    then youo've done pretty well.

It's people like YOU who have sent this country to the dogs, the feckin'
PC brigade whining about the slightest thing, I'm not scared to complain
about something if a company has done me wrong but you're just whining
    for the sake of it.

Now get back under your bridge or I'll get the hose.

    Me?
Stupid suckers like you just don't get it.

Virgin Media/Mobile are trying it on. They are sending abusive text
messages to try and coerce me into making unnecessary calls. This is a way
for them to make money out of me by threatening me that they will cancel
my phone - and that is after I paid for it and topped it up and it's not
like I haven't used the phone.

So Jack, I suggest you get a pair of pliers and crush one of the two
neurones you have inside your head as they are clearly not complementary.
Then think about all of this again.

Are you on the "Daily bonus PAYG" tariff? If so, your free texts might not
count towards keeping the phone live. Most other networks specify
    "chargeable" calls or texts.

AFAIK, Orange sims used to stay live indefinitely but all networks reserve
the right to cut off unused numbers after a period, some more quickly than
    others.
