Hi, I got a attes plan a year ago. It gives me 1000 minutes for $39.99.
Now, I would like to keep that plan but update to a new phone. I
checked their web site, looks like it is impossible. I have to get a
new plan from Cingular. Is that true?

    Thanks,

    Autogoor

You can get another AT&T phone from eBay or another private source.

Call AT&T. We are a year into our family plan with four phones. About a
month before our year was up one of the kid's phone went through the
washer--that one cost us $34 to replace. A month later my son wanted a flip
phone. I called and found we could get a Motorola V180 for free, so we got
one for him and one for his other sister. I am still using my Nokia 6800.

If you migrate over to Cingular you would have to pick out a current Cingular rate plan. You would be unable to keep your current calling plan from AT&T Wireless.

If you wanted to update your phone without updating your plan, you would have to purchase a phone through ebay or another source. It's my understanding that all stores that carried AT&T phones have sold through or returned all remaining AT&T product.

About freaking time. That was supposed to have happened in November of 04

I'm guessing your comment was directed towards the fact that AT&T has sold through all remaining inventory. If not then correct me.

AT&T has been sold through it's inventory before the end of last year. There were some dealers out there that hadn't. But all Corp. AT&T stores had set dates of when the inventory had to be cleared. What that date was I don't know, as I never worked for Blue. So, don't make it sound like they just cleared their inventory last week, because majority of stores had it gone by the end of December.

You're the one who said they had to clear inventory in November. I'm telling you that it's not true. I don't know where you get your info from, but as usual it's wrong again. I'd be interested in knowing who told you that information.

Re: update phone but not plan

After I got a new phone, say from ebay, I can I update it? I still want
    to keep my number.

    Thanks,

After you get a new phone from eBay, just move the sim card from the old
    phone to the new phone.

One should make sure first that all their saved phone numbers are saved
to the SIM, and not to the phone.
