Hmm, Apple is hovering right around 1% in terms of market share (for
business), while the wireless part of AT&T has about 30% market share
(for business), while for non-wireless products AT&T does business with
about 80% of larger businesses (be it long distance, conference calling,
    leased lines, whatever).

Apple's strengths are in the education market and in the consumer
market. They could, if they wished, expand their market share in
businesses, but they would have to offer dual-boot systems direct from
Apple, rather than the current way of having their resellers offer this
    option.

The iPhone is not directed at large businesses. It cannot run the
    necessary applications.

No one is scared by loons that loony, they're completely harmless.

There's plenty of other alternatives for a hell of a lot less than an iphone.

apple is now about 50% the value of ATT, and 93% of that value has been
erned in the last 10 years, so by default, Apple will be more valuable
than ATT in about 12 years. There is no way around it, ATT better shape
    up or they will lose.

Just another of your pathetic little pig ignorant drug crazed fantasys.

And it took a hell of a long time before Apple managed to shape up, too.

Does mean that its ****ed for email compared with a small laptop.

Yes, but a small laptop with a real keyboard leaves it for dead for email.

    > Your GPS isn't optimized for that.

Wrong again. Its actually much better optimised for entering
text via a touch screen keyboard than the iphone, because
with a GPS you only have to enter a very small number of letters
and then select from the list. You cant do that with email.

    >>> that doesn't mean that I am.

    >> Does mean that its ****ed for email compared with a small laptop.

    Wrong again.

    > You carry your laptop; I don't want to be

Then you get to wear the crudity of a touch screen keyboard
which even you wont be using for email much.

As I said, even you wont be emailing much.

    > iPhone to other cell phones to comparing it to laptops.

No I didnt. YOU brought up the laptop you were considering before the iphone showed up.

    > Typical red-herring tactic when one can't defend one's position.

Never ever could bull**** and lie its way out of a wet paper bag.

The only feature of the iPhone that no other devices match is the
ability to play DRM protected downloads from iTunes. On other devices
you'd have to remove the iTunes DRM which is beyond the ability of many
    users.

For the user that wants what is essentially a web pad, world phone, and
iPod combined, and that doesn't care about doing lots of e-mail or
running PDA applications the iPhone is fine.

You can use "http://phonescoop.com" to search for phones with 802.11,
and there are a few with 802.11g.

One advantage of the iPhone is the large amount of integrated memory.
With the competing phones, you'd have to use a MicroSD card to equal the
memory, and you can't even buy an 8GB MicroSD card yet (due next year).

One of the reasons some people are down on the iPhone is that they are
comparing it to PDA type devices such as the Blackberry or Treo, which
are more of a PDA plus a phone, and which can run a huge number of
applications natively (not just web based apps). The iPhone is not a
PDA, it's more of an entertainment device plus a phone plus a web
browser. It's actually not a bad deal for a mini-web pad for use
802.11b/g, the phone function and music player functions notwithstanding.
