Thanks for the info, Richard (& Edward S). I wouldn't have been able to
progress without it.
Got the front casing off fine according to the instructions. I ended up
using two old guitar picks as my levers! They worked a treat. I had in fact
tried to get hold of the 'correct' toolset from a dealer on eBay, but
unfortunately it never arrived -- "lost in post" :-(
I took the risk of removing the fascia from the casing, partly because the
replacement casing I'd bought (from a non-working T39 via eBay) had more
damage on its corners than the one on my own phone! It came away quite
easily in the end; the glue used to hold it on is surprising soft. Just
pinch the edges of the casing (once it's been taken off the back of the
phone), and the edges of the fascia pop up slightly. Move your tool (in my
case, the guitar pick!) into the gaps, and slowly and GENTLY prise it away.
I say gently because otherwise there's a risk you could bend the metal at
the narrow sections.
Of course, the fascia being replaced on the other case can come off as
roughly as you want!
A few drops of superglue on the underside (taking care not to apply too much
so that it doesn't spill out onto the case), and just drop the new fascia
into place on the original phone.
Cheers.
