Always had Nokia or Sony Ericsson before but like the styling of the V500
which I had a look at today. Can anyone comment on how easy ot it to use,
particularly SMS wise, and also the battery life.
Any other general comments/opinions welcome too.
Cheers

Oh and I forgot to ask - does it have either an SMS counter or a 'sent
items' folder so that I can make sure I stay within/around my text limit?

Re: Motorola V500 - opinions?
Hi ..
Like you this is my first "NON" Nokia phone. I am impressed with it..!
Lot's more features than any Nokia I've had.
I am still a little puzzled over the Predictive text workings of it.
i.e. how to quickly insert a comma for example. With a Nokia you can
press the 1 key several times and then you'll get a full stop, comma
or whatever... doesn't seem to work with the Moto.
But generally I like it. THe graphics menus are pretty bland - but
it's got many features which I think are great.

I had a muck around with a few handsets today,notably the V500, Nokia 6600
and the Samsung E700. All are really nice but I was quite taken with the
Moto so have ordered one from Orange for free on their square deal which I
am made up with. The Nokia was nice but what a stupid shape.
One other question - what's the standby time like for general use, say, 5
mins of calls and 10 texts a day?
Cheers

Re: Motorola V500 - opinions?
Hi matey,
I do like the Moto - GREAT features; You'll be pleased.
Battery life is pretty good. But I do text a lot and use WAP a lot..
that seems to drain the phone quickly...
Anyone else able to offer advice here ;-)
I've actuallty got a v525 (same as v500 but Vodafone branded) but I've
flexed it to v600.. so now it's unbranded! ;-)

Re: Motorola V500 - opinions?
I like it and yes it tells you how many texts you've sent and lists
them too. i had a Samsung A800 before. Text is a little more
compicated than Nokia and Samsung, but you will get used to it. Check
out www.reviewcentre.com and put in Motorola V500 under the
search. You'll get other people's opinions too.

I came from Sony J70 to V500. Very happy. Nice styling and weight, great
screen, decent camera (OK for emailing), bluetooth. good predictive text
(imo better than T9) menus easy to navigate and very customisable, MP3
can be used as ringtones, good phone book, bluetooth etc etc Not had any
problems at all so far. And if you can be bothered (I can't) you can buy
a cable and 'flex' the phone to a V600. Don't get a V525. Same phone
massacred by Voda

Re: Motorola V500 - opinions?
Hi
A couple of you have mentioned flexing a v500 to a v600 now, what does that
mean and can you point me to any more information about it (tried Googling
that term but got nothing)???

Effectivly you flash upgrade it to a V600, I've looked into it but as
the onlything it really gives you is videoplaybck, and losing the
vodafone customisations, and you risk loosing the camera on the phone
decided not o bother
the 525 is a nice phone, ignore the comment don't get on, as if you on
Voda you don't have a choice, they took the V500 branded it for
vodafone and called it the v525, same phone as the 500 just voda
branded
4 days batterylist, and I have bluetooth on all the time, so probably
more if it's off, good text and email I think it uses the phones
memory so you don't have a limit in the sent box,

I found it one of the most un-intuitive and complex beasts I have come
across. Even simple jobs like setting it up for email is a trial. The manual
doesn't even mention it. The iTap can't be turned off and the Bluetooth has
to be prompted to connect each time.
One thing I did like however was the auto fetch of email at a chosen
interval.
The damn thing is being returned on Tuesday and being replaced with a Nokia
6600.

Wrong and wrong again! RTFM

My old Ericsson T39 has this feature.

Well I couldn't find any mention whatever in the manual provided
by Vodafone. Perusal of the manual for the non-doctored version
was no better.
My personal (perhaps unreasonable) expectation of equipment is
that the manual should not even be required apart from reference
to advanced functions. Setting up for everyday things like text
entry and email should be clear and easy via the menus. To go down
the route of needing handholding for simple setting up is daft and
is the mentality of Mickeysoft, i.e. if the software is buggy,
unstable and unfriendly, it must be the user's fault).
I confess that I am used to Nokias and like the 6600, so perhaps
that is something to do with it? Also, I dislike predictive text
entry and could not, despite best efforts, disable it on the
Motorola.

I simply entered my btinternet user name and password , in fact it was
easier than setting up email on my T39.
mpted to connect each time.

Perhaps so, however just because you could not find it, does not mean it
doesn't exist, admittedly, I wasn't absoulutly sure about itap on and off,
this is how you turn it off, in create a new message mode, press the middle
menu button, ENTRY MODE and SECDONDARY SETUP allow iTAP to be switched on or
off or other language choices.
as for BT mine is set for auto on or you can set it to ask every time could
it be that Voda have removed the menu as my friend has a V600 on t-mobile
and the connection menu is different to mine and seems as his will allow SMS
send recieve and phone book update from a PDA .
