I've been browsing the web looking for a phone to take with me on my
next trip to Europe. The first phone I read about was the Ericsson
R520 but the Motorola v66i looks pretty good. I'm on Verizon (CDMA) at
home, so this phone will only be used when I'm traveling. Aside from
basic phone functionality, the only thing I really care about is data
(to use with my laptop). I've read a lot of positive and negative
reviews of this phone, but the one that really made me worry was a
comment from someone in the UK that "this phone doesn't work with the
newer SIM cards" - I didn't realize that there were different versions
of SIM cards. Anyone know more about this?
It seems that while this phone was only introduced to the US this
year, it has already been discontinued in Europe. I'd rather not get a
phone that's already obsolete and totally unusable...
I'll be visiting Ireland and Denmark in January '04 so I'll be making
a buying decision within the next couple of weeks. Any comments will
be appreciated, thanks.

Re: v66i opinons?
V66i good and still a current model. There are plenty of alternatives all
have a similar performance with circuit switched calls but if you are mainly
interested in data
Motorla or Siemens phones are probably the best for GPRS performance with
Siemens just edging it judging on the figures I see from the network tests.
Nokia and Ericcson too buggy for me and Nokia reliability is questionable.
There's plenty of choice, I would probably go with a Seimens S55 or Motorola
T720i personally
