Re: A new Nextel stick phone

I don't think that in any place on Earth Nextel would offer a phone with
a Built-In Digital Camera since Nextel is more "Business-Savvy" than
other companies (IMO I already tried Nextel for certain "test" phone
calls--no echoes and calls are crystal-clear, even though not at
1900MHz--IMO 1900MHz is a little bit too unstable for my tastes). A
Palm Tungsten C/Nextel Phone Combo (dubbed the Palm Powered Smartphone
for Nextel Customers) would be OK but a Nextel Phone with a Digital
Camera IMO would be a little bit out of place for a Nextel Phone, don't
    you think?

I'd rather have a Camera separately because IMO a Phone is supposed to
serve as a Phone, though. I'm using my Nextel Phone for the following
    criteria:

    * iDEN-based Phone Calls
    * Occasional, Emergency-Basis Direct Connect
    * "For Your Eyes and Information Only" use of Nextel Web

IMO You don't need a camera on your Cell Phone as picture quality on a
Cell Phone IMO is crap compared to a SHIN (True) Digital Camera.

All good points, but Nextel has announced (during the third quarter
investor's call) that they will be introducing a camera phone.

A shocker, isn't it? Especially for a Business-Oriented iDEN Provider
like Nextel. Maybe Nextel wants to reach some Consumer-Level
    Individuals as well.

Definately a surprise, although there are a few business segments (real
estate for one) where it would be a great tool. I don't too many of
Nextel's core customers going for it (security issues), so the majority of
sales would most certainly have to be consumer level.

Nextel should want to getmore phones and more manufacturers at a faster pace
for the consumer level not just business. After all, verizon, sprint and
att will market ptt to their average cell phone user not just the business
user. the camera item is no biggie, but phones with bluetooth and more
variety is a must in any business. it just makes sense that nextel should
want to offer more choices then the standard bulky phones that drive younger
buyers away, who in reality drive the business of cell phone sales.

For the younger buyers, there is Boost Mobile (Nextel prepay), which has
some of the flashiest phones around. THe advertising is geared to the
younger crowd, and it should start going nationwide sometime in the next
year. And while Verizon and Sprint are going to have PTT, neither is going
to be as instant as Nextel, and Verizon has already shown that PTT is not
the cash cow with consumers that everyone thought it would be.

As far as size goes, Nextel phones continue to get smaller. THey just
introduced their smallest phones yet, and this looks like a trend that will
continue. They will never have the lighter size phones, but the product
mix over the next year should provide something for just about everyone.

Nextel phones are released at a snails pace. I don't blame Nextel as much
as I blame Motorola for not going to market quicker with new iden phones. I
guess that is the luxury you have when you are the only PPT game in town.
Verizon is not a big player, at least yet, in that market.

I agree, but what additional functionality would you be looking for? I can
think of only a couple of things lacking in the current lineup- bluetooth
and camera capability are the only two that come to mind immediately, and
    possibly smartphone.
