Re: 9/30: T608 Awareness Day
Hmmm .. but wut I wonder is this.. If it does come out. Do you think Sprint
is actually going to have the bluetooth portion of the phone act as a
wireless modem so you can browse the internet.. I doubt it..

This issue alone has caused rampant speculation, but the latest
firmwares that are in phones do not block the data Bluetooth profiles.

It's called The United States of America, and it is the best place in

Wow! Its funny that I just so happen to run across this thread!! I too
was planning on calling Sprint & asking if there are any plans to
offer the T616. I have definate plans of leaving Sprint when my
contract is up because of the SMS (or non-SMS)issue.
However, the only thing that would pacify me & make me stay would be
if I could get the T616.
So, I'm in agreement with the starter of this thread!... Not
necessarily so radically, but it couldn't hurt to make our request
known because we do have a choice & we can easily go to a carrier that
does offer the t608 or T610.

The T616 is GSM, and Sprint is CDMA. The T616 will never be for
Sprint.
Sprint will launch full SMS services in November, and the T608 may be
one of the first phones to support it (Sprint SMS-enabled phones will
ship later this month, though the service will not be active until
November). The T608 may have been held up to re-enable SMS, as it had
been removed at the request of Sprint (as they didn't have SMS at the
time the phone was supposed to ship).

Re: T608 Awareness Day
I'd like to know who told you that, because this came straight from the
guys who test the phones. They never quit testing it and finally
approved it. It took so long because the phone had a hard time passing
the tests. It WILL be for sale soon, but only online and in Ford
dealerships.
Let me know who said that the phone was killed if you can!

It was DreamPages that said that, and he does not work for Sprint. He
is a Sprint Business Solutions Partner.
And I just spoke to another Biz Partner (like 5 minutes ago) that will
be carring the T608 that said they just spoke to their contact at
Sprint... It's not dead.

It will be for sale in Ford dealerships and online in less than a month
barring some unforseen incident.

Bluetooth's main use in connecting the phone to the car. It allows for
a wireless hands free and will someday replace onstar. Ford is the only
company that wanted to carry the phones as of yet. They will also be
online, but not in stores.

That's what everyone says about SE phones, until they are released.
People said the T68i was ugly, then everyone said the pictures don't do
it justice. Same with the T610. I say hold off judgement until you
actually see the phone in-person.

Re: 9/30: T608 Awareness Day
First of all, no one cares that the phone is "crappy looking," because
most of us do not buy phones based on looks. Kids do that.
Just because you can't see the usefullness of Bluetooth does not mean
you should mock others who want it. Some of us actually want to use our
phones for more than just voice communication, and BT is the only
practical way of doing that.
I personally will be leaving Sprint for T-Mobile and a T616 if Sprint
does not have a BT phone by the time WLNP kicks in. AT&T is giving away
their version of the T616 for free, and T-Mobile has it for only $199.
There is a real possibility that I may switch to another carrier even
before number portability, if T-Mobile reduces their price even
further. My guess is they would be willing to match AT&T's deal if you
sign a 2-year contract.
I've been with Sprint since 1998, and have stuck with them even when
they had subpar service. But they are too slow in adopting technology
that I need, namely SMS messaging and Bluetooth.
