    Re: Vodafone SMS settings

    Hi,

I work for Vodafone and can help. If it's a contract works phone then
sometimes the company supplying the mobile will decide to remove the
MMS (picture messaging) and GPRS (internet) options off the SIM card at
network level. I'd recommend the contract holder contact Vodafone to
make sure that MMS and GPRS are both provisioned on the SIM (without
them on there these services won't work, even if you download the
settings via the internet - the provisions need to be in place first).

The Nokia should still function correctly for SMS as this is a standard
feature on the handset and not one that needs to be provisioned to work
on the network. The only reason this would fail would be if a bar had
been put in place on the SIM to prevent SMS from taking place. Again
the contract holder could remove this by contacting customer services.

You could also go into the SMS settings and check that the message
centre number is entered correctly, this would need to be 447785016005.
The 'message format' option on the phone settings would also need to be
'text' to work (sometimes it can be set to 'fax', 'voice', 'ERMES',
    'pager' etc).

If you still have problems I'd recommend getting in touch with
Vodafone customer services. The account holder can make contact by
going to www.vodafone.co.uk, selecting 'contact us' then 'email'. If
they leave the short code FIT135 in the email field this will route
their query through to somebody who would be able to help them. I'd
also recommend including the following details to help with the SMS
    issue:

    - Make and model of phone
    - Post code area of where the fault is occurring
    - Any error messages on the mobile
    - If it is a specific, or multiple, networks that SMS is failing to
    send to
    - Please try sending an SMS to 9770 (this will send an SMS text to your
    own number)
    - Time and date the problem started
    - Is the problem permanent or intermittent

This will allow Vodafone's technical team to investigate further.

    I hope this helps.
