    Hi all,

Being unfamiliar with the forums, I have placed my query where I thought it belonged. Also, it seems that these forums are for the U.S. and Canada, but I am hoping to still get help with my query.

I will be moving to London in September for 1.5 years, and I needed to figure out how to maintain contact with my family and girlfriend in the U.S. while out and about.

    My options seem to be:
Pay as you go plans with a phone that I buy there.
Monthly plan for 2 years (wasting several months' payments) with a free phone.
Buying an unlocked phone here and getting a pay as you go plan there.

I know this is very nebulous, and I do apologize. I know there are several different companies there and I have not specified phone types. I can get an unlocked iphone 5 here and take it there, which seems to be one of the surest options.

Thanks in advance for any help offered!

I would get an unlocked phone here and get a prepaid sim there once you arrive. Then just pop it in and you're set. Before you leave you can load up your contacts

    Thank you for that answer!

It seems to be the best option, but I will continue to look into this. More answers would be nice. *hint hint*
