    Re: last night my droid got update 2.01

    late dec 7 update

    There have also been reports of new unlock sliders and unlock screen, as well as increased web speed. First, you will be notified that a system update is available on your device. Press "Install now" and your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.The Verizon tech explained that you "pull down the shade" on the notifications menu, where there will be a notification that an update is available.

    Detailed instructions on how to upgrade and update your Droid by Motorola are available online at Verizon Support.

    BGR reported today that when updates are rolled out there is a small test sample of 1,000 Droid users who received the notification to update their Droid, today. Then at midnight tonight 9,000 more Droidites will receive an update notification.

    There will no more updates until December 10th at 12AM, then 200,000 Droid Updates will be pushed out over the air. It will continue at 200,000 devices a day until everyone is updated. It has been estimated that almost a million Droid phones have been sold which when calculated out suggests a four to five day roll-out.

    Re: last night my droid got update 2.01

    I updated mine manually the other day. So far it does seem as if the battery may be a little better but that is purely subjective.

    The camera is faster for sure as well as browsing the Gallery.

    There have been MANY reports of slow scrolling with Browser. Personally, I've not seen it. I also understand this may may not be a problem with other browsers (e.g. Dolphin).

    I don't really like the look of the new lock screen. The offset time and Verizon Wireless just don't look right.

    People who reported the echo problem say that has been resolved. I never experienced that problem so I can't (personally) comment on it.

    The FaceBook app was updated. Some people say it's better. I use Bloo so I can't say.

    The phone feels much faster. Scrolling is definately faster (Browser problem notwithstanding). Overall, the update is more of a, "behind the scenes," update but it does seem to make the phone better (imo).

    Re: last night my droid got update 2.01

    Update came last night!!! I was up with my daughter and noticed it at 3 a.m. so of course I had to install it. I could tell the phone was operating more smoothly before I went back to bed. I did not realize I was missing anything, loved the phone, this just made it better.

    I have noticed impoved camera performance, but have not had time to play with it a lot. Don't know about the battery yet because the upgrade sparked my fiddling reflex so I have been hands-on the phone a lot today.

    I noticed the new Facebook and it seems smoother, no specific changes it just seems a little faster. I made the Mistake of resyncing my contacts and got double facebook profile choices on each. OOOPS!

    I have used it as a phone enough today to know about the echo. That is an issue I have had with several phones including this one (on and off). Each time it was a software issue.

    Love my Droid!!!

    I am glad everyone seems to have the update to 2.01 and here is an update detailed info directly from motorola about the update and what was actually included in the update

    cheers

    DROID - Android 2.0.1
    How can I get the latest Android 2.0.1 software?

    Google has released new software for Android 2.0.1. For consumers who own a DROID by Motorola, this means you will receive a free over-the-air download that will automatically be pushed to your phone.

    This download will enhance the user experience, with modifications that include an improvement to the camera autofocus capability, voice reception, and visual voice mail response time. You can see a more complete list below.

    The advanced technology of the DROID means you will only have to accept the download to your phone for continued use and enjoyment of this feature packed Android phone. The request will repeat periodically until installation is completed. The update is being rolled out in a phased approach to groups of DROID owners over the next few days, so not all owners will receive it at the same time. You will not be able to “pull” the update via the DROID interface.

    NOTE: Once you have received your notification, turning your DROID off and on will automatically launch the upgrade installation, even if you have selected the 30 minute delay.

    The Droid by Motorola software version AP:ESD56/BP:C_01.3E.01P update includes numerous improvements:

    * OS stability is improved.
    * Battery life is improved.
    * Camera auto focus functionality is improved, and time between shots is reduced.
    * Enhancements for three-way calling.
    * Audio for incoming calls is improved.
    * When receiving a call on call waiting, the speakerphone now remains on.
    * Bluetooth functionality is improved; background echo is eliminated.
    * Improved Bluetooth phone book transfer of contacts to in-vehicle Bluetooth solutions.
    * After closing a GPS application, the GPS icon will now automatically be removed from the notification panel.
    * Users can now receive SMS and MMS messages after an EMS message is received.
    * SMS and MMS may now be sent to seven-digit addresses.
    * Google® contact merging has been updated to accommodate seven-digit numbers.
    * Voice Mail notices now arrive instantaneously.
    * The corporate calendar widget user interface is updated.
    * New simplified touch and slide gesturing for unlocking the phone and answering calls.
    * Improved SMS/MMS messaging address functionality – it now recognizes parentheses in addresses.
    * Additional UI enhancements including changes to the Power Management widget.
    * There are also enhancements to other widgets, including the Facebook and picture widgets, which will require users to remove and reinstall the widget from the home screen.
