video to computer

I have a z750a and am trying to send a video to my computer. I want to send it via usb cable. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I have read the instructions and have been to the store but no luck. The instructions are pretty vague and the store said to send it email. When I try to send it email it want me to edit it. In the past I have been able to send still picts to the computer via usb cable. Can anyone give me a hand?

thanks

Re: video to computer

In Theory, all you should have to do is plug the cable into the phone and navigate to the videos section. Are you sure you have the drivers for the phone installed? A disk should have been supplied with your phone for this. The disk also has transfering software, so if for any reason, you can't simply plug the cable in and navigate to the folder, this software should be able to do it. Sending the videos via e-mail will be a waste of time, as they will be cropped, take ages to send, and it will cost you a considerable amount of credit. Good luck .

Re: video to computer

Thanks for the help.

No I didn't get a cd with the phone. In fact I didn't even get a cable. While on the road I stopped at an ATT store and the lady was kind enough to give me the cable. I didn't ask about a CD because I didn't know it was necessary. The user guide doesn't memtion about the CD but does say the cable is sold seperatly.

Anyway I have no problem transfering photo to the computer and I have send a small clip via email but I can't figure how to transfer video via cable.

When I plug the phone into the computer the computer does recognize it is there with a list of options as to what I want to do but nothing for video.

Re: video to computer

That dosn't sound too messed up. Just plug the phone in and everything, and then click to view all files and folders when the selection box appears. There should be a folder called 'videos' and that should be where it is. If it's not in there, try browsing the other folders - I promise you it will be there somewhere. Do also be aware that the cable will be able to read the memory card as well, so you should have 2 prompts appear. If it's not on the phone, try browising the momory card - it's the same principal and just remember to check all the folders.

Re: video to computer

I don't know if it makes any difference or not but I am only using the phone memory not an additional card. I don't think it makes a difference but....

I can find the video on the phone but I just can't get it to the computer.

Re: video to computer

it wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in a memory card for two reasons:

1. enable you to store LOADS more stuff than just the little bit that the internal phone memory allows

2. eases the process of transferring things like videos, pictures, and music between the PC and phone (works both ways)

theres not much reason to interface directly with the phone unless you need to change a file that absolutely MUST reside on the phones internal memory.

Re: video to computer

The problem is even if I clear all the picts and videos off the phone it still won't allow me to transfer a video to the computer. The program comes up when I plug in the phone via the usb cable and asks me if I want to transfer pictures but nothing for video. I think I am doing something basicly wrong here but don't know what it is or where to start.

Re: video to computer

what program are you using?

is your phone CDMA or GSM
if its CDMA i can suggest an alternate app to use.

dohh... i just realized that your phone is being recognized as a USB mass storage device and you have the autoplay options set on it to transfer pictures as if it were a camera (or camera card). You see, when that first window popped up when the phone was connected, there was an option to select what you want to do with the device. Apparently the first time you did it, you chose the option to "transfer pictures" and told it to do that every time.

No problem though.
here is what you do in this case:
1. Next time you connect your phone to the PC and that window pops up, just close it and go to "My Computer"
2. your phone will be listed as a removable storage device
3. double click on that drive
4. you will see the folder for video
5. double click that folder
6. drag the video to any other location on your PC

hope that makes sense for you.

i basically broke the steps down that were mentioned in this paragraph formatted guide:

Re: video to computer

Hey thanks for the help. Spikejones you hit the nail on the head. Now I did it before I read your post but you got it exactly the way it worked. As the English say "spot on". If I still didn't get it by the time I read your post you info would have solved the problem....thanks

Anyway I have had this phone now for about a month or so and have been tryin on and off to figure how to get the video to transfer. Well I just figured it out. I got the darn thing to work. Don't know if I can explain how I did it or not but this is basicly how it worked

made the video
Had to save it usin video dj on the phone drop down.
Had to give it a name to save it. I think that was the major problem.
Then I went into my computer and clicked on E drive(I think that is the one that said phone)
Then a bunch of folders came up one of which said video.
I then clicked on the video file and the name of the video was there with a filmstrip icon.
I clicked on the clip and drug it to the desktop. Bingo it was there.
I then disconnected the phone to make sure if I played the video it would be the one from the desktop and not routed from the phone drive.
The video played like a champ.

No way would I ever been able to figure this out from the instructions. Just trial and error and dumb luck.

Hey thanks again for your help. This was kind of an important reason I got this phone. I wanted better camera and video than I had with my last phone. The last one was about 6 years old so you can figure how bad it was. It died so I got this one. Does a pretty good job. Now with the video workin I'm pumped.

Re: video to computer

glad you got it sorted. yeah, ****e can be confusing a bit. you are a luck one to be with a carrier who does not lock down the USB mass storage device on the phone. Me being with verizon it takes a butt load more to do that little process. I firstly had to hack up my phone to extend the video duration from 15 seconds to 4 minutes, then i had to transfer the video from the phone to the card, and from the card to the PC (or get a direct filesystem access with BitPim, which is slower). Then it turns out that the crappy phone records in .3g* format, which is really only playable by quicktime (odd since the phone only support .wma audio) quicktime = apple, wma = windoze. anyhooo, hard to edit a .3g* file for free without loosing the original audio.

hopefully your experience will be a better one.

Re: video to computer

As you have figured out I don't know a heck of a lot about this stuff. We have ATT for two reasons. First it's part of my daughters business and second we travel quit a bit and ATT seems to have the best coverage for us where we "normaly" travel. How it worked out with the usb cable and being able to transfer all this stuff was just dumb luck.

I went to the local ATT store and asked how to transfer the video and was told to email it to yourself. Like you said before it would seem to me to be pretty expensive to do it that way. I wanted to be able to put it on my computer and then be able to send it out to a couple of friends while we are away. This way I don't think I hope I won't have to use vimeo or some other thing that takes a ton of time to upload.

Now since you have proven you know what your talkin about, where is the best place to get a memory card. They seem to be runnin about 23 bucks plus shippin on ebay for a 2 gb card. Watcha think?

Re: video to computer

sounds like a fair price IMO. I think i paid a butt load more than that for a 1 GB card from the VZW store. wish id looked around more first though. that was before i really knew what i could do with my phone.

Re: video to computer

Well don't get me wrong "I" really don't know what I can do with this one either. I'm a basic user. Phone, text, picts, and video is about it.

I just checked the Staples add. They have, what I think is the card I need on sale for 13 bucks. This is the last day for it so I'm gonna head over and see what the story is.

I just like the video to send quick clips while we are away to my daughter and buddy. Heck it's just fun to play with. I always have my phone but not my camera. Not as good but it does pretty well.

Re: video to computer

Well you guessed it. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Anyway I got over to Staples and they had the memory card on sale but......when I got hope it seems it doesn't work or is the wrong size.

This is a Micro SD 2gb card. It says its cell phone memory on the package. Do you have a z750a and is that the card you have?

Re: video to computer

TBH, no. i dont have that model phone ( i have a verizon razr v3m )

anyhoo, my razr phone wouldnt recognize the SD card until it was formatted for the phone. this may be the issue with your phone. I cant really guide you to the proper location on your phone to do that process. It may be in your manual or you may have to ask an ATT customer service agent. I will also mention that some phones will only support a certain amount of SD memory. You might want to check on that as well.

Finally, the phone i have is actually the second handset that ive had from verizon since the first one that they gave me did NOT recognize the card in order to format it.
