My plan is about to expire, and I'm wondering which
cellular plan has the most bang for the buck. Is
there a consumer's report about the carriers, that
    anyone knows of?

There are many such reports, including the ones by Consumer Reports
magazine, but they're too general to tell you what you really need to
know for your specific needs. (Matters little, for example, if service
is good for users surveyed but nonexistent where you are.)

    My suggestions:
    1. Decide whether you prefer prepaid or postpaid
    2. Check best plans and prices of major carriers in that category
    3. Pick the most suitable phone from the best carrier
    4. Test phone and coverage carefully in the first two weeks
    5. If it doesn't meet your needs, return it (without penalty)
and go to #2 on your list

For my own needs, I prefer prepaid (no contract), and found T-Mobile to
have the best coverage (in areas I care about), and best plans and
pricing ($60 per month for more minutes that I need, plus unlimited in
network calling, and unlimited night and weekends, with unlimited
messaging and Internet). I think picked the phone on T-Mobile that best
met my needs: myTouch 3G 3.5mm Jack (Android).

But your needs might well be different, and you'll get as many different
answers here as you get people answering.

Page Plus Cellular (www.pagepluscellular.com) using PIN numbers from
Callingmart.com on sale at 7-10% discount and storable for a whole year.

You must buy "something" at four months (120 days) or your balance is
toast. But, if you buy even the smallest $10 card, your current balance
rolls over into the new 4 month period. Always buy it on the LAST day
    to maximize your time.

The $80 PIN sells at discount of 10%, occasionally, but more often at
    7%.

So, you're buying an $80 PIN from callingmart.com for $72. This gives
    you 2000 minutes for $72 = 2.7c/min or at 7% discount around 3.6c/min
FOR VERIZON CDMA COVERAGE NATIONWIDE, not some crappy ATTWS or other
halfassed carrier. VERIZON provides the footprint. PP sells it cheap!

If you need internet, this is NOT for you. There are, however, two
heavy user plans ON VERIZON's system from Page Plus. $29.95 (discounted
7-10% with a PIN from Callingmart.com on special) gets you 1200
mins/month + 1200 SMS and MMS messages (even the pictures) + 50MB of
    DATA (used to send the pictures). $29.95 - 10% = $26.95/month....more
saving. This is regular service and expires in 30 days....every month
like you have now. If you use over about 700 mins per month AND/OR need
text messaging, it's better for you than the straight prepaid PINs.
Unlimited Service has gone up to $45/month for UNLIMITED text and
UNLIMITED talk on VERIZON'S SYSTEM, not T-mobile or ATTWS or Cricket or
    some other halfassed system.

PP will activate any CDMA phone, but do yourself a favor and get a
triband CDMA. You don't need a new phone. 99c CDMA phones from a
thrift shop work great...especially ones with REAL ANTENNAS that pull up
    before this girly nonsense.

Page Plus operators are available on any CDMA phone/system by dialing:
#737 [SEND] instead of the 611 (which gets you Verizon who won't help
you.) Pageplus operators are in OHIO, not Bangledesh or New Delhi.
AMERICAN ENGLISH is their first language! That takes some getting used
to, but you'll survive. They are also very nice to us....not like the
Big Guns' operators who could care less.

Great information on how this works is on:
    http://nordicgroup.us/prepaid/pageplus.html
but the numbers are wrong as the service has gotten even cheaper,
    lately.

If you're looking for JUST phone or phone/texting service WITHOUT
becoming a contract slave for years of servitude, THIS IS THE BEST!
