My contract ends in about 16 months and my Nokia is barely holding on
(it's taken too many falls I suppose). Anyways, I've looked into
buying a replacement phone (without starting another contract) and the
    prices are pretty outrageous.

Aside from a buying a used phone on eBay, does anyone have any
    suggestions?

Can I purchase a GoPhone and just replace the sim card?

Any help would be truly appreciated.

    Jim

A used phone on eBay is a good way to go. Just be sure it has both 850 and
1900 bands, and is either unlocked or locked to Cingular.

If you want the benefit of ENS (being able to be home to the "blue" network if
that works better for you -- which may be nice, but usually isn't critical),
then you'll want a Cingular-branded phone originally sold since the beginning
of this year and a 64K SIM (which you should be able to get free from a
    Cingular retail store).

You could also purchase a Cingular PAY AS YOU GO phone and switch your
SIM card. They are selling the SE T290 for $59.99 or the Nokia 6010
for $69.99 No contract required. You could also look at Target to see
what phones they are selling on the GO PHONE service.

The Cingular GoPhone website has the Samsung C207 (Refurb) for only $30.

I have had some pretty good luck using Craiglist (www.craigslist.com)
