I have a compaq presario laptop, which isn't in the greatest of shape.
Even reformating doesn't fix some of the problems with it. But the
problem that's been getting on my nerves the most is Cingular
Communication Manager(CCM). Every so often it doesn't recognize my
Globetrotter EDGE Combo card, signal drops to nothing, even though my
cell has an almost permanent 4bars. I've completely erased my
harddrive, reinstalled Windows XP (Home), card drivers, CCM, etc...
still have the problem. I've moved to different locations to see if the
signal will get better. Nothing. I've tweaked, checked, unchecked, and
tested every option I can. The only thing that works, is starting the
CCM, connecting, then using Task Manager to end the CCM process. This
keeps me connected (and keeps my speed at ~18KBps) until I disable the
network connection. I've had "decent" service through Cingular, but my
previous experiences with their customer service is, in my opinion,
below par at best, so I don't want to ask them.
Is there any way to connect to Cingular's GPRS network without using
the CCM?

You can create a DUN (Dial Up Network) connection. That usually work better
than CCM
