i've got an old l1400 that i'd like to completely wipe clean and restore
to default before i send it to be recycled. unfortunately, the screen
got completely fried when i plugged it into the (official LG product)
charger to recharge the battery. [that was l1400 number two; i won't get
into just how big of a pos this particular model phone is, or how
aggressively bad cingular customer service is, or what an ordeal it was
to get a defective pos phone replaced here. suffice to say i have a new
nokia 6256i and verizon service and am happy as can be!] the main
display just shows solid white when it's on, so it's impossible to
navigate through the phone that way.

i got a data cable for the l1400 in order to try and transfer pictures
off of the phone that i couldn't send via mms. that didn't work either
-- why the engineers at lg would make a phone that can take pictures up
to ~75kb in size and then offer no way to move pictures larger than 60kb
off the phone (and then make it so you can only see the central 160x72,
or whatever resolution the main screen is, of the pictures that are
stored on the phone) is beyond me. but i was able to transfer ringtones
to the thing using hyperterminal to communicate with the phone over the
data cable using at codes. there used to be a website, or several
websites, that provided instructions for how to do so, as well as lists
of the AT codes for the phone and what settings to use with
hyperterminal in order to communicate with it. i neglected to bookmark
them. they seem to have vanished from the internet in the intervening
months-years since i first used them.

so: if anyone can provide a list of the L1400 AT codes, i will be
eternally grateful. or, if someone can give me whatever series of
keystrokes i need to do a complete factory reset of the thing (keeping
in mind that i can't see a thing i'm doing because the display is
completely fried), that would be just as good. thanks in advance!

"One tablespoon of butter, one egg yolk, one scant tablespoon of flour,
salt and pepper to season, half cup of milk, three-fourths pound of
brains. Parboil the brains. When cool, salt to taste and chop in small
pieces. Cook flour and butter in double boiler; add milk and beaten egg
yolk and stir slowly into butter and flour, add seasoning and brains.
Cook about three minutes and serve on toast."

I briefly maintained one of those websites, jabali.net/~lars (long since
gone) Someone made a program called the L1400 communicator that would use
the AT+DDLU command to snag the images. I was ****ing incensed when I
realized that with every snapshot I took, I ran the risk of it being to
large to get off the phone.

The phone responds to AT%FRST with "FACTORY RESET OK."

You could also try this sequence on the keypad:
    2945#*# [Service Menu]
    6 [Factory Default]
    Left Soft Key [OK]

I was glad when my L1400 finally stopped connecting to the network. It's
a damnable piece of ****-- Though its GSM voice quality far outstrips that
of the CU500, which I have now.

    ~L
