is the SE-V800 functionally the same as the SE-Z800i - except that the Z800
does not seem to have the Vodafone branding?
If so - any companies capable of 'flashing' a V800 into a Z800?
Also - anyone know if there's a maximum size allowed for the Memory Stick
duo pro in a V800.
I would like to treat my V800 to a 512MB MSD card for more mp3 sounds on the
move.

Here is a cut and paste from the Knowledge Base available at
www.sonyericsson.com . I just used the free text enquiry system and got this
answer:
Which memory sticks are supported (V800/Z800 series)
------------------------------------------------
These Sony Ericsson mobile phones support Memory Stick DUO and Memory
Stick DUO PRO up to 1GB.
This solution is valid for the following product and environment:
V800
Vodafone 802SE
Z800i

Yes. I've done that.

thanks for that! I bought a sandisk MSD pro 512 yesterday and it works a
treat.
These guys have a piece of software for collating mp3 'broadcasts'

Hi David,
Yes, I have successfully flashed my V800 into a Z800.
My solution was the following:
- Total Multi Server - http://www.totalserver.net/
- T28 Service Cable (a friend of mine already had one, got it from here:
http://www.premiergsm.com//cat--Sony...atacables.html )
- Total Multi Server Credit (I got it from www.faceoffmobiles.com ,
keyed in my e-mail address, clicked on PayPal...)
The flashing process took me about 30 minutes (I got very nervous,
because I didn't want to loose my phone at the end...), but when the
client said "finished", I was happy to see the standard SE-Logo after
turning on the phone.
(I removed SIM and MemoryStick while flashing, used the following files:
Firmware: Z800i-V800i_R2Y005_ZONE_1_EU-EMEA.V8S
Language: Z800i-V800i_R2Y005_EU5_EN_FR_DE_IT.V8D
, Firmware Version is shown as R1Y005)
I am very happy with my new "Z800" (the only difference to a "real" Z800
is the internal Phone identifier (CID29 vs. CID36), wich AFAIK is only
used when flashing the phone)
Positive:
- No branding
- You can set Standard (non-DRM'ed) MP3s as Ringtones / Alarm / ...
- right softbutton is shown as "more" again
- Standard WAP-Browser, no locked Interenet access profiles
- IMHO nicer Menu graphics
- Contact image is displayed on external display
Negative:
- NO OFFICIAL WARRANTY!! - if anything goes wrong, you're on your own!!
- YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA ON THE PHONE!!
I backuped / restored my contacts / calendar entries with this prog:
http://k700.hitziger.net - K700 Little Helper (others are useful too)
WARNING! Make sure to set the Timezone and daylightsaving the same as
before, I got all my calendar entries back with one hour offset at the
first try!!
- Phone is not recognized by USB cable anymore (although I never use
this one) You should be able to d/l the official driver as soon as
it will be available on the official SE site.
- Vodaphone Live is gone (I have never used this anyway...)
I believe that there are other tools that are able to do the job, but
this is what worked for me...
Total Cost:
10£ for Data Cable (wich I didn't have to buy...)
8£ (~18 Swiss Francs on CreditCard) for Flash Credit
- IMHO, totally worth it!

Re: V800/Z800i
Z800 USB drivers are now availble on the SE web - at least at the danish
site! Works fine....

That is brilliant! When I've had it six months, I will try this!
Good advice about the backups!
All the best, David.
