Believe it or not, "to look nice" is the best anyone has been able to come
up with (it's on the T610 as well) although some say it's to indicate that
pressing the joystick/middle button in will take you to the menu screen...

Surely what you say below is a better reason than the above, and therfore
"the best anyone has been able to come up with"?

I just "discovered" something about the cube ! I seems that when making a
call, the top right part of the cube attaches itself from the rest of the
cube What the hell...?

It does indeed. I have been watching it to see if anyother bits of the cube
will detach when doing other things but not so far.
You know, the real purpose of it is obviously to make people like us ask,
"Whats the little cube all about then ?"
