My girlfriend just bought a Motorola V3 and wants to sync it with Outlook
2003 in order to transfer her 300+ contacts. She found the supplied (Lite)
software doesn't work with Outlook so paid for the Deluxe download from the
BVRP website. On installation it upgraded itself to the latest release -
    V3.23.

The software has the option to sync with Outlook but fails during the
contacts sync with a message saying "Error occurred - Retry/Cancel" or words
to that effect. Pressing retry results in the same message over and over
again. There is no useful clue as to what the error is and I cannot find a
    log file that might help.

The software also seems incapable of syncing simple repeating events like
    birthdays.

She's emailed Motorola and BVRP but as it's Sunday I'm hoping someone on
this group might have a quicker solution. I can find nothing on the FAQs and
Forums for the software, other than it is flaky in general
(corrupts/overwrites or erases Outlook data!) but there is nothing about
    this specific type of error.

The phone software version is R374_G_0E.40.3ER_A. I've no idea if that is
recent or old as I haven't found any clues through Google. Maybe an upgrade
would help but I have no idea whether it would, or even if there is one.

Any ideas before she returns the V3 and gets something that works properly
(like her Sony Ericsson Z600 or even my trusty old T68i?) If SE had this
sort of thing working three years ago I don't see why Motorola can't manage
it in this day and age.

For anyone that cares, I found the problem by studying the "modem log" for
the MPT software. It showed that some contact data contained <CR><LF> codes
within the name fields. It's a mystery how they got there but by correcting
the Outlook data the sync completed successfully.

It's a pity BVRP don't think to apply basic data validation though. I was
taught to do that when I embarked on my computing career back in 1981!
Perhaps the developers don't think it's necessary these days. I'm not sure
how they can justify that with data supplied by an external source. Very
    strange.
