The sound in the earpiece of my StarTAC is cutting out due to a faulty
connection through the flip hinge. I really like this phone and want
to have it repaired, even though it's out of warranty. I did some
checking and found two sources for repair:
Motorola, Dallas area, $75 flat rate and 90 day warranty.
Viastar, Philadelphia area, $45-$50 for new flip housing installed (I
presume this includes the hinge connection that I need), and a 30 day
warranty. Longer warranty available at extra cost.
Has anyone had good or bad experiences with either of these repair
services? I'm leaning toward Motorola, since I presume they use OEM
parts. Turn around time is not critical, since I activated a spare
phone while this one is out for repair.
Any comments are appreciated!

Re: StarTAC repair question
I have replaced the Flex Cable, which is the same problem you are having
and the phone I repaired is STILL working till today. The part you need
is a StarTAC Flex Cable, and a Soldering kit.....be adventurous and do
it yourself.....WAY CHEAPER! Good Luck!

Re: StarTAC repair question
That's an interesting suggestion. Do you know where could I buy the parts?
