Anyone out there using their cellphone to surf the web?

I've been surfing for a few weeks but can't get more that 9600 baud
    out of the cell phone.

Anyone who knows how to get the cell phone in service or debug mode and
    increase the speed please respond!

I have a Motorola V60i TDMA phone and an USB connection. It's a little
shakey but for the most part it works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

9600 is all you can get from TDMA.

Any recommendation of how I might get more speed?

I've heard that in the fall in the Va. area my carrier will be going GSM.

Can I get above 9600 then?

GSM carriers (T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T among the nationals) offer what
is called GPRS, which would give you around 40k. Sprint and Verizon
offer 1xRTT which would give around 70k. GSM carriers in about a year
or so will start offering EDGE, which will give around 70k. Sprint
and Verizon are of course not standing still and will get faster too.
All depending if the networks in your area offer the data services.

Using a data link, as opposed to using minutes like you do now, costs
extra money. Cingular is quite expensive, ATT too. T-Mobile has the
cheapest data rates going, at $10/mo unlimited. Sprint is not bad if
you haggle, but they are best when offering plans to retain existing
    customers.

A bonus of a data link is the abilty to still receive calls. At least
with GPRS. Not sure with 1xRTT. Anyone?

Thanks for the info Doug, it's been very informative.

That reminds me though to take another look at my carriers contract.

I understood that I would be paying an additional $2.99 for data service
but my bill right now is around $80!

Time to check into the small print.

    Thanks Again.
