That's the only way I can describe what suddenly happened to my phone
today, it's possessed. I made a call earlier, set my phone down.
About 20 mins later, I noticed one of my contact phone #'s was on the
display. I tried to hit the "back" button (the one to the right of
the down arrow that you typically use to hangup a call) but it
wouldn't go back to the normal screen. I then tried hitting other
buttons, nothing seemed to work. So I removed the battery and put it
back in. The phone wouldn't come on when I hit the power button.
Then about 30 seconds after trying to get it to come on, it finally
did. So I tried pushing buttons again, nothing happened. It sat
there for about 2 mins on the main screen, I wasn't pushing buttons
during that time. Then suddenly it selected the last person I called
and dialed their number. I tried to hit the back/hangup key again but
it didn't work, nor did any of the keys. So again, I removed the
battery and put it back in. This time, it came up, and went to the
screen where you set the time. The time was not set right, but I
couldn't set it, again the buttons weren't working. Then like every 5
mins or so it would switch over to the volume screen for about 5
seconds, and then go back to the screen where you set the time.
I can't figure out what's wrong, any suggestions? It's almost as if
the internal memory/bios is corrupted or something. Bottom line is, I
can't put the battery back in, because when I do, it just starts
calling people at random and I can't stop it.
Thanks,
Dustin

Bizarre.
Sounds more like a dodgy keypad connection than memory corruption or
malevolent spiritual ats from beyond the grave. I tried with my phone and in
a few cases things like the back and volume keys don't do much if another
key is held in. As for dialling people at random, I can only assume you have
some speed dials programmed in. And it's usual for the set time screen to
appear after taking the battery out.
Unless anyone knows any better....?
Paul.

Re: Nokia 8260 -- possessed phone?
I actually only have 1 speed dial built in, and that's when I hold
down the number 1 to check my voice mail.
Anyway, the problem appears to be gone, I let my phone sit without a
battery for about 5 hours, and now it seems to work. The only thing I
can think of is, earlier today I was sweating after going for my
morning run and called someone while I was still sweaty. I thought I
did a good job of keeping the phone from getting too sweaty, and even
wiped it off with a towel when I was done, but maybe some sweat
managed it's way into the phone?
Bizarre to say the least..

I wonder if that's it... I don't think so though, because I handle my phone
when my hands are wet (and text message like that too) and my phones are
fine. Of course, I've switched from Nokia to Samsung. The R225m reeled me
into their brand.. Since then I bought three more Samsungs, and currently
have the X105. Either way, I think taking out the battery for a few hours
was an excellent idea. It gives the phone some time to reset.

Re: Nokia 8260 -- possessed phone?
Just to follow up, my phone is working fine again. I dunno what
caused it, I'm also skeptical about it being sweat. Nonetheless,
leaving the battery out for a bit seemed to fix it, so whether the
water inside dried or whatever, I'm back to normal.
Thanks,
Dustin
