It seems, that you've bought ProLific PL 2303 chipset based cable. This
cable does not function with original Nokia drivers.

    Try this link:

    http://tech.prolific.com.tw/visitor/v_fileBrw.asp then 'Smart I/O IC' ->
'USB 1.1' -> 'PL-2303 ProLific USB to Serial bridge'

    Does this work?

You should install this driver only before plugging the cable in USB port.

After driver installation, connect your phone to PC using cable and open
'Control panel' -> 'System' -> 'Device manager' -> 'Ports COM and LPT' - you
should see additional virtual COM port with 'Prolific USB to Serial Bridge'
comment. Remember this COM port number. Open 'Tools' -> 'Options' ->
'Connection and common' -> 'Connection' -> 'Add port' in our program, add
this virtual COM port number and set connection type to 'DLR-3/DLR-3p'.
Press 'Ok' to confirm the settings. Our program should pick the phone up.

As per our information, most of cables, offered on E-bay, are based on
    ProLific PL-2303 chipset.

If you have any questions and/or suggestions, concerning our
program, feel free to post them on our official forum

Nope. I have three different versions of the prolific driver and each of
    them give the same error.

I'm pretty sure it's not the prolific cable.

The seller assures me they've sent me a cd with drivers that WILL work.
I'm assuming it's just a trick to ensure I don't give him negative
feedback on ebay. I'm convinced the cable is useless.

Look, I KNOW downloading is the most expensive way of doing it BUT IT'S
    MY ONLY OPTION RIGHT NOW.
