I'm looking for a wireless phone for use with any major US provider
(Verizon, Sprint, Cingular, T-Mobile) that can transfer two types of
data directly between my phone and PC.

    1) I want to be able to take pictures with the phone and transfer them
directly to the PC without paying to send them over the provider's
    network.

    2) I want to keep track of appointments in vCalendar or iCalendar
format on my PC and transfer that information directly to the phone
(again, without paying to send this information over the provider's
    network).

I don't care about the technology used for the transfer. USB,
Bluetooth or infrared are all fine. As long as it can be done directly
between the devices without a monthly fee or per-transfer charge.

It seems to me that these two features should be available on ANY
phones that have camera and calendar functions, yet they seem be
available on NONE. Please prove me wrong by pointing out such a model.

I think I've figured out how to accomplish this. If I get a phone that
works with an open source program called BitPim I can import my
calendar into BitPim and then transfer it to the phone via USB. For
the pictures, if I get a phone with a microSD card I can get a microSD
reader for my computer that can copy off the files. It's a little bit
of a pain to have to swap the card out but I can live with that.

The Motorola E815 does those things AND will use a Trans-flash micro
memory card. Unfortunately... Verizon disables "file transfer" functions
(USB cable or by Bluetooth). Nice, huh? However that does not prevent
you from removing the memory card & copying from/to it with your cpu. It
is a small bother, though. (no pun intended)
