Ok I am conflicted on which to buy: Blackberry or Samsung Instinct.

I want to be able to check my e-mails in hotmail.

I don't want to set it up to the phone and pay for a e-mail/data plan. If I pay for "Unlimited Mobile Browser" and just go to hotmail.com or my schools email website from the phones browser, will I be charged for e-mail usage?

I'm a student and if this year is anything like last year I will be doing a ton of group work as leader. So e-mails get sent all the time, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it's e-mails you're after, it's a Blackberry that you want. You'll need a data plan though, so it depends on how much you want to spend. But on the upside, you get push e-mail vs pull e-mail, and the QWERTY keyboard is a whole lot easier to use.

The Instinct will be cheaper, but no QWERTY keyboard, and it's more of a phone.

Personal opinion, Blackberry all the way.

Would using the browser work though?

Ive gone through the rate options for both and the student plan works out best for me, I'm trying to stay under $50/month. So the Instinct with student 25 + 15 fun bundle is just under $50, as opposed to the blackberry with e-mail/data.

I'm not overly needing e-mail, I just want to be able to use e-mail if i can through the browser rather than through an email program, which both phones support.

Mostly I text, and play games haha.

Hmmmmmmmmm, well maybe the Instinct is a better choice for you then. It really depends what you use it for. I personally do way more PIN to PIN Messaging and e-mailing than I do phone calls. I probably do 3 e-mails for every phone call.

If price is an issue, then for sure the Instinct will be the better choice. I've played with the unit and have surprisingly found it to be very nice.

My personal opinion is still a Blackberry though

Something that gets ppl confused is that even though you have an unlimited data plan you will not be able to access hotmail... You will have to add the 8$ MSN/Live option in order to access it. Call them up and verify. I have the instinct and have been surprised to find that out. Also if you are ready to pay 15$ you might want to consider 5$ more for the fun 20$ to get live tv+ radio.

I was all set to get the instinct.. but with more reasearch found that you cannot "sync" the instinct to your outlook for contacts and calander. so right then it went out.. im back to the HTC again.. Ther ear e acouple of new models coming out form HTC as well that look very good int he 4th qtr of 2008 the right now i think the obvious for smartphones are the HTC touch dual or the HTC touch. If i could i would go to telus but they do not have numbers in my area, but they do use the bell netowrk in my area.
