i have two hamsters(fat enough to be considers guinea pigs!) oscar and butterball :[ one of my other hamster died *creampuff* bless her heart. she died of wet tail, itsa bacterial infection from weird foood she eats when she escapes (i call her houdini sometimes because of that) when hamsters or other rodents get wet tail they diarhea and refuse to eat, then they just starve to death, thats the first time i cried over anything, except the time i saw airbud(the first one...they have like 875638 different airbuds now)but that was when i was like 8

and two pomeranians sabrina(which i call yabrina cz yabrina rhymes with sabrina :P) and sammy just because i like the name sammy!

My favorite pet was a drop-dead gorgeous, honey-colored, 1/2 Golden, 1/2 Lab I named Mercedes, Sadie for short. I raised her up from 5 wks old and she was my companion/buddy for 11 yrs. She responded to vocal commands and hand signals. She was extremely intelligent, a quick learner, had a fabulously gentle demeanor, and of course, was as friendly as it gets.
When she was a pup, she somehow got her head stuck underneath the front seat of the car. I pulled over and tried to dislodge her, working half-panicked to free her. After about a half hour, with all my efforts being futile, I threw my hands up in the air and vented..."Dammit..you got yourself stuck, you get yourself UNSTUCK!!!" I'll be hanged if she didn't in less than 2 seconds flat.
I was in the process of trying to teach her "Stay" during that gangly-legged phase. I had to make a mission of mercy errand, and took her along for the quick ride. I left her in the car, window half down, and told her "STAY" and walked away to ring the doorbell. She tried to jump out of the car to follow me, and given this wasn't the most graceful and coordinated time of her development, she fell out and immediately wailed. The blood-curdling kind. The kind where you know immediately that this is a run to the doggie hospital wail. Yeah, her leg was broken and required a cast, but apparently it was the final lesson it took to learn the command "stay".

I kid you not, one time she faked an injury and limped about for attention for a couple of days. I felt and inspected her leg, paw, pad, webs and toes. Nothing, no jerking when touched, no twitch, no evidence of injury. On a hunch, I enlisted the aid of a friend and asked him to bring his dog over. I instructed him to park in the back alley and enter via the back gate. When he arrived, Sadie limped to the back door and barked, as she felt was her duty. I opened the back door as he and his dog entered the back gate. Sadie BOLTED out the door and hauled full throttle to greet them. Midway I said: "A-HA!" She stopped dead in her tracks for a moment to turn and look at me. "You're sooooo busted", I said. She turned back around, quite unconcerned that her ruse had been made and frolicked with her friend, her mysterious injury miraculously healed.
One day, a local radio station was having a Buck-A-Bark contest. The winners had a yappy lil dog that went ballistic when the man pretended to attack the woman. Sadie and I came in 4th place, and because I had her trained to bark on command in response to to a hand signal, the DJ decided to "interview" her then and there on live radio.
We lived in Germany for a while, on the economy. Upon our arrival, our apartment neighbors were obviously not overjoyed by the propect of having to share space with yet another American couple, but worse, ones with a large, presumably ill-behaved dog. It wasn't long before she won the hearts of all; given snacks, lovins and taken for walks by them. She was welcome everywhere we took her to include restaurants, shops and gasthausen (essentially, tavrens with rooms for rent). The troops on post lavished her with all kinds of attention and was the closest thing to a mascot the unit had.
One time, my husband and I took a 2-week leave to fly from Tenn. to Oregon to introduce his family to the newest member of the clan, our son. This was the first time in 7 years that Sadie had been seperated from me. I had a gf dog-sit. By the 2nd day, gf called all panicked because Sadie was not eating, playing or interested in life. What to do, what to do???? The proverbial lightbulb went off and, although I felt silly, had her put the phone to Sadie's ear. She responded immediately to the sound of my voice...tail wagging, ears up, and just overcome with joy by the sound of her master's voice. LOL...had to call her daily to reassure her of my presence.
The day I had her put down was one of the saddest in my life. She had liver cancer and weighing quality of life vs quantity of life was a heavy decision to make. She had had a good, rich life, many adventures, much travel, lots of love and I couldn't see her spending the last of it hooked up to tubes at the vet's office in a cramped cage. The look in her soulful brown eyes, that once twinkled with the joy and lust for life were now pleading for mercy. In the end, I believe, it was her choice and I was only carrying out her wishes to be released from the agony and despair. I held her and spoke to her gently as the injection eased her journey to the Rainbow Bridge. That was 14 yrs ago and I am still brought to tears at reliving the experience. Thank you for allowing me to share.

I've just got back from Tasmania, Gemma loves to go with me and play with mum's dog (Maddison), I got some cute pictures of them frolicking in the heavy frost that we had (no snow I was hoping Gemma would see snow for the first time!)
