So I was wondering what all your thoughts were on religion? I find they were just used for control in the past and aren't really that important today. As human beings we can set moral values our self and a lot of religious beliefs are open to interpretation and cause many problems in the world.
Anyway that is my rant.

Re: Thoughts on religion?
I think you're spot on, I don't think that there is any need at all for religion these days, it just seperates more people than brings together!

Re: Thoughts on religion?
By simple definition, religion is man's attempt to reach God (whoever or whatever that is to the individual). I would agree that mere religion is of no use. Man never gets it right on his own, and not all religions are alike (in light of the vast differences between religions, and the myriad of conflicts between their respective beliefs and practices, only an ignorant person would try to lump all religions together). However, the fundamental basis of true Christianity is that Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and raised to life on the third day after His death, just as He said would happen (and just as was prophesied hundreds of years before it happened). Regardless of the many diversions (and perversions!) of the Christian "religion" that have crept in over the last 2,000 years, true biblical Christianity presents Jesus Christ for who He really is, and that He is the only true avenue to God. And He should know ... He is God the Son. If you want to know the real Jesus, then start by reading the Gospel of John. Remember: if this were just my own opinion, it would be as worthless as any other man-made religion; if it really is God's truth, then it is incumbent on everyone to believe it.

Re: Thoughts on religion?
Jamal, I would certainly agree that there are many contradictions between the so-called holy books, which confirms what I said in my earlier post that not all religions are alike. I have read other religious writings, and have found that Bible stands out uniquely as the inerrant word of God. Furthermore, Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). My attitude continues to be this: I have literally staked my eternity on what the Bible says, so if there are any discrepancies in this book, I would certainly want to know what they are. Could you share with me any contradictions you have found in the Bible? (I do know that there are what might be described as seeming contradictions that can be explained with further examination.)

Re: Thoughts on religion?
My thoughts on religion, at least the "big three" I take from someone who said it best:
"Think of it like a movie. The Torah is the first one, and the New Testament is the sequel. Then the Qu’ran comes out, ignores the last one like it never happened. There’s still a Jesus, but he’s not the main character anymore, and the messiah hasn’t shown up yet.
Jews like the first but ignore the sequels. Christians think you need to watch the first two, but the third doesn’t count. Muslims think the third one was the best, and Mormons like the second one so much that they started creating fan-fiction that doesn’t fit with any of the series canon."

Re: Thoughts on religion?
I think that religion is perfectly fine, but to a certain extent. Some of the fanatics and extremists take things a little too far. There are those, however, who seem to use religion for their own purposes. They claim to believe, but their faith isn't very solid.
Of course, this is probably the viewpoint of most people. Just thought I'd put in my two cents.

Re: Thoughts on religion?
Actually, sweety4, there is only one religion for humanity, and that is true faith in Jesus Christ. The reason I say that is because He is the only one who was ever crucified, buried, and raised literally from the dead. This same Jesus is the one who said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father [i.e., gets to Heaven] except by Me" (John 14:6).

Re: Thoughts on religion?
I don't have a religion but I have no issues with anyone's religion as long as they preach to me all day.

Re: Thoughts on religion?
I, too, would agree that we have no need for "any religion these days" if those so-called religions are merely man-made attempts to reach God. However, we do need to come to God on His terms, and that can only be done through genuine personal faith in Jesus Christ, the only One who died, was buried, and raised from the dead (which truly validates His claims to being God the Son, and the only Savior that God the Father has provided for all humanity). My challenge to all of you is to start by reading the Gospel of John ... read it slowly, carefully, and with a desire to know the truth.
