verizon released their PTT a while back with that crappy PTT v60...everyone that i know thats used it considered it a big joke. They even rated the sprint PTT as being better.

Also...399 with contract?!? I just checked my latest price sheet...and we are selling for $319 on a new 2 year. $399 is crazy, esp. if it doesn't have BT or a removeable mem card slot

I'm just wondering why Cingular/AT&T is so behind with this PTT technology.

lol. well the only PTT thats even worth anything is nextel. The reason we're "behind" (meaning we haven't rushed to introduce our own version like verizon and sprint) is because we've had a lot of other stuff that is much more important...such as migrating from the TDMA network to GSM...if we didn't do that...we'd still have like 4 phones...and the fact that we've been focusing on combining our network with ATT's and further building out GSM coverage...

PTT just isn't that important to cingular...besides...we just hit the magical 50 million customer mark, and have unlimited mobile to mobile...which kinda makes the whole PTT even less important. Basically its not very important, so its on the backburner.

Makes sense. I probably wouldn't use the PTT technology all that much myself, just thought it'd be cool to have. But yes, free mobile to mobile is pretty much the same thing.

the prices i listed before were for the se s710a not the p777, so that was the mistake, as far as PTT goes, its really not that big of a deal, its the same thing as mobile 2 mobile, and everyone has that, its just slightly different than PTT, so who cares? Sprint got it and it isnt that big of a deal for anyone, and verizon isnt huge on it either yet, it will take a long time before any carriers PTT will be as efficient as nextel's direct connect, which is absurdly annoying

They will HAVE to bring out a ton a phones with the PTT capability. Every Nextel phone comes with this, so everyone uses it. Verizon only has like 2 of their 50 phones that support it, and they are usually not cool and up-to-date phones. They will really need to come out big if they want it to catch on. Now with in network calling for free, it's a little useless.

I think it's a neat feature, Totally Unneccissary, but neat.

its going to be very hard for cingular to ever be able to interact with nextels DC becuase nextel sends out encoded signals which other phones cannot decode, its probably going to be a long time before the two will interact

True. Sprint and Nextel will probably have interoperability fairly quickly. But Cingular may wait a long time.

I know that they will be using the same system that Alltel Wireless uses. They use Kodiak. I actually have Alltel Wireles T2T. its very instant and can be used nationwide. the one thing that is better than Nextel is that you can toggle back and forth with a T2T call and a regular call. With Nextel, you can't. The person calling in would hear a annoying message asking to hold while the subscriber your trying to reach is located.

Ahh...so thats why I hear that ANNOYING message when I call my friends that have Nextel. It keeps playing in my head...

"Please hold while the Nextel subcriber you are trying to reach is located"

Never understood it, but now I do!
