Question

when exactly do i get an upgrade on my phone?...i gotta Motorola v551...can the phone even be upgraded?...i want the black razr...or mayb just wait for the razr 2 to come out...so can someone explain to me this process please...and also the phone is always shuttin off at random times and wont turn back on unless i take out my battery and sim card and put them back in...whats up with that?

You are typically able to get an upgrade after 18 months of a two year contract. You'll also have to extend your contract another 2 years (or whatever the deal is).

Of coure, you can always pay full price for the phone at any time, and not have to extend the contract, but it will cost you more. You don't even have to get it direct from Cingular.
