My RAZR has a chat mode, which I tried out with a friend briefly, but so
far, after 4 or 5 days, the charge hasn't shown up online. I was trying to
find out how much it costs, thinking it was probably charged as data, and
would be much cheaper than text messaging.
Anyone know anything about how it's charged? Is it a common feature on
recent phones? It's not text messaging or IM, in case you're wondering.

What's with your 'have you called customer care' response all the time.
NOBODY IS GOING TO CALL THE IDIOTS AT CUSTOMER CARE.
Why sit on hold and then finally get some dolt who is clueless when
the people here generally know far more?

on hold, each time I've been treated withcourtesy and politeness. I've
also been given an answer which proved to be correct in every case and
on the first try.

That number is probably not very high, or your questions were simple and you
called at an off time.
I often wait on hold a while. While the reps have always been courteous and
polite, their answers definitely are not always correct and I have gotten 2
or 3 different answers to the same question on occasion. Sometimes, the
answer is obviously wrong, so I simply call again.
I don't really hold that against them - in fact, I expect it to happen
sometimes. They are often new, or sometimes preoccupied and not totally
paying attention, just like normal humans sometimes are.

I wouldn't go so far as calling them all idiots, but it is easier for me to
ask here. I wouldn't want to call just to ask about this, although if I
call for something else, I'd also ask about this.
I don't like to make too many calls from work, so it's easier to post. Not
really that hard to figure out if he were to think about it, but John of
course assumes everyone is an idiot except himself, and would rather
chastise someone than help, it seems.
Too bad the answer isn't in the FAQ; then he could ding me for that, too.

Easier, perhaps, but almost certainly not as fast or effective. You still
haven't gotten a good answer. Your criticism of Cingular Customer Care
notwithstanding, there's far more misinformation here than there is there.

Why not? It's a free call, and usually doesn't take long.

It's OK to use the Internet for personal business but not the phone???
Regardless, how about other times? Calling Customer Care seems a good way to
pass the time when stuck in traffic.

It seems that you not only have a chip on your shoulder, but that you somehow
think it's appropriate to insult those that are just trying to help. I simply
asked a question that both suggested the best way to get that information (in
case you hadn't thought of that) as well as any confusion that might have
resulted. A simple answer would have taken less time and effort than your
insult.

Too bad you couldn't be bothered to call Customer Care first, and can't be

I'm neither. I just make sure I know what my question is before I call
and treat the CS person with the same politeness and courtesy that I
expect.

Thank you. I have no idea what you're talking about, but your comment has
made you the winner (correction, winer) of the most stupid post of the week.
BTW, I have posted numerous times, including in reply to your post, that I
never get lousy service, and I always treat the reps well.
Now, if you tried using your brain before posting, you might realize that no
matter how well you treat them, it has no effect on how long you wait on
hold before they answer.

Thanks, it does help. It also illustrates why calling isn't always the
end-all solution to questions, unless you call several times.
It also shows that Cingular, while not perfect, seems to be attempting to do
a good job by monitoring possibly inexperienced service reps. No company
can expect their reps to know everything out of the box, so correcting their
mistakes is much better than not caring at all.
Too bad it doesn't use data instead of messages though. Would have been
nice to have the alternative.

I am glad this was of some help to you, and I agree that while no company
out there has 100% knowledgeable CSR's at least they record AND review them
to make sure the information they were giving was accurate., and if it was
an error on their rep's end, they (at least in this instance) corrected it
and post dated it to the call.
And yes, I agree it would have been nice if they had it under data instead
of messages, but they bill it how they do, and for now...not much we can do
about it lol.
