Well by getting firefox that won't get rid of whatever virus or browser hijacker you have. The only way is to post your hijackthis log and sort it out for good.

After doing that then get firefox

I had adware that would fire up every time Internet Explorer was started. I deleted the adware multiple times in multiple locations on the hard drive, to no avail.

I got Firefox and used it with no problem , the adware doesn't look for it at all. So even though I couldn't ditch the adware, by ditching IE it basically gave me my computer back.

I have since gotten a new computer and use nothing but Firefox.

    ^Googd point!^
Cause most adware and spyware clings onto IE and uses it as food! Well in a way! So generally most of the time, switching browsers will fix it, but sometimes, because IE is a good part of windows, it can mess up explorer too, so switch to firefox before its 2 late!

You might want to try out Microsoft's Antispyware program. Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) They recently bought this program out from a different company and it works GREAT!! (PC World gave it some outstanding reviews.)
