Well, I purchased a nice, new brand new computer from Circuit City. Well, Circuit City a year later decided they would file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Yes, this is great for the consumers who which to go and buy a new computer (or almost anything else) at their amazing up to 30% pricing. This is great for some people, but let's look at the bigger picture.

Their Circuit City Advantage Warranty I payed an addition $100 for is still valid, until the day it expires (October 29, 2009). Normally, customers could extend this up to an addition 3 years (upon the time it is about to expire). Well, because of the bankruptcy, the third party company who honors Circuit City's Advantage plans refuses to allow people who have already purchased their warranty in the past to extend it beyond the amount of time you have paid. Meaning whenever this expires in October, I will be screwed. They won't allow me to extend it (even if I pay an arm and a leg). Here's what upsets me: people who go into a Circuit City store and purchase a liquidated item (like a liquidated computer, at a discount price) are able to get the warranty through the third party (for an additional fee, just like I paid). Why can new customers get one but current customers cannot extend it? Also, I chose to never extend my standard manufacturer warranty, since I was assuming I would be secure through Circuit City (my normal warranty through Gateway expired). Gateway required you extend your warranty the Monday prior to it expiring, after that, you cannot extend it.

Are there any third party companies that allow you to get a warranty for your computer (a laptop) without already having a current warranty? I will pay, I'm not expecting free...I need help people!

    Anything you use? Any suggestions?

Have you used this company? Do you know anyone who has? I am attempting to get a company who has a good reputation, besides what they tell you.

I investigated that company you told me about Camstuf.

I loved everything until I spotted out that it said you needed to have 90 days remaining on your manufacturer's warranty, my ended in October 2008. I then emailed them to ask if my circuit city warranty could count for my manufacturers warranty, they said no...great company...bad policy . Do some investigation on this company "Safeware". I'm thinking about just getting insurance for it...in case I drop or damage it...

Well provided you already have an insurance agency like Statefarm or something similar, many will allow you to insure computers or laptops for a pretty small fee, most i've seen was $4 a month.

Have you checked with circuit city regarding the warranty? Sometimes these warranties are farmed out to a 3rd party insurance company and the warranty may stay in tact even in Ch7. Check the fine print on the contract!!!

Yes, the agency is a third party...however, they are not allowing people who already have the warranty to extend it, like circuit city use to.
