Does anyone in here use one of the mini notebooks (aka Netbooks)? They are like a laptop but are designed for single operations and use Intel Atom, which I know nothing about.
I want to know, from users who have used one or own one, how well do these Netbooks perform? How would they compare to a normal laptop?
Thanks.

Re: Intel Atom?
I haven't got any experience using one, but the Intel Atom processor is usually reserved for the smaller than average laptops that have a low power consumption. The reason for this is that with the reduced size of the laptop, there's not much room for any cooling as such, and the Atom is commonly used because it dosn't require that much cooling or power. Of course, this leaves a compromise in performance, so you shouldn't expect anything with an Intel Atom processor to perform as well as larger laptops.
In short, the Atom wasn't really constructed with performance in mind, so I'd be wary of this. A high end Celeron would be a much better alternative, but again, these too are fairly slow (though much better than the Atom in some cases). If you're not too fussed about the physical size of your laptop, just go for your average Core 2 to keep up with todays computing demands.

Re: Intel Atom?
Actually I'm using an Asus EEE, Intel Atom, 160gb of HDD with 1.5 gb of RAM, and I have just about everything I had in my desktop. I even have an external DVD burner which works great. Talking about performance, superfast, better than Celeron, which I have in my Levono and my desktop, (mini tower). If you are thinking about buying one, you have nothing to lose; of course, the display is only 10", so you have to get use to it. I bought my wife an Acer One netbook, and she loves it, this one is 8". My internet speed is only 115kb, and I do everything in this netbook, all my testing with cellphones, with fta, even when I have to fix a computer, this netbool is the one I take with me, and easy to carry. Give it a try.

Re: Intel Atom?
I use the Dell Mini 9, AWESOME little machine, and more than powerful enough for anything I do. The biggest downfall is the solid state hard drive, which is slower than a normal hard drive, but no complaints at all about the processor or memory.
