My girlfriend just got a new phone and it got stolen last night, bad luck for sure, but is there any hope at getting it back or finding who has it?

Anybody have any ideas on finding who has it?

Does Sprint have the capability of tracking what tower the phone is connected to, and if the phone is switched to the theif's account, can they see that the serial number of the phone is flagged as stolen?

Any ideas on how to trick the theif will help too...

$200 down the drain because Sprint probably won't replace it or offer any discounts on getting a new phone...

It can be done rather easily... I've done it before a few times... You mean triangulate it between three towers and find the tower that's closest based on signal strength? That's a bit inaccurate but it could work... then again you'd also need someone with knowledge and access to technology... I'm guessing they've already claimed the phone as their own by now... especially if they've done this before...

I've always been treated well by Sprint... you might ring 'em up and see what they say. You just might get your phone replaced.

Call Sprint immediately, report it stolen and ask them to disable the phone so the thief can't run up a big bill calling China on your dime.

If the phone is listed as stolen, Sprint won't activate it on another account. They do track their phones by ESN, exactly as you said.

Did she buy insurance with her new phone?
