6310i v5.50 does not work with iPaq2215

Recently I upgraded the firmware in my 6310i to v5.50.
After that I experienced some troubles with trying to
enable SMS delivery confirmations. For some reason, the
availability of the appropriate menu entry became SIM-
card-dependent. But that is not all...

The whole purpose of this upgrade was to make my 6310i
communicate with iPaq h2215. As I dicovered, it did not
help much. BT connections seem to disconnect immediately
after they are established. Nokia beeps and shows a
message that my iPaq disconnected while iPaq is waiting
for the connection to establish. I believe that Nokia is
the one who initiates the disconnection. The devices can
see each other but they cannot connect successfully.

An attempt to use IR was not successfull either. The
devices could see each other but I could not synchronize
address books on them. At most I could beam a single
entry from iPaq to Nokia.

Are all these problems the known ones? Is there any
workaround known?

Can't help as I use a palm, but my SJ30 with a BT memory stick has worked
with 6310i v5.22 ok for a dial-up connection. Check out this site, as it
has some guides that may help with the BT side of things.

How was it upgraded? If you used someone that utilised the cheap China
flasher, they probably used patched flash files - that could be a problem.

It is SIM/Network dependent.

Hmm.... IR is usually pretty reliable. Not too sure here to be honest.

It was upgraded at the local level 3 Nokia service center. I have
not seen the process of update myself but I believe the used an
approved equipment and firmware...

Hmm... But I used to have this menu entry with the same card and
on the same network before I did the upgrade. Which gives that
the new firmware became picky if it shows this menu option or not.
I was able to stick another SIM, then I got the option in the
menu. I set it to "On", slid the old SIM in, and now I can have
delivery confirmations while an appropriate menu is not visible.

Well, my next question may be dumb, but how can I send the whole
address book from 6310i to my iPaq?

I am in Australia, and have a 6310i and used to have a Palm Tungsten T
PDA. Everything to do with phone <--> Tungsten worked fine thru
bluetooth.

Had the phone upgraded to 5.22 so that I could link BT to my laptop.

Now I get the same prob as you. Try to check SMSs with FunSMS, phone
connects, disconnects, connects, disconnects...

Have now sold the Tungsten T and bought a Clie UX50G.

Installed FunSMS, same problem.

Using the supplied SMS program, same problem.
There is no 6310i driver on the Clie, just a generic GSM driver.

However, there was an inserted slip of paper, that mentioned if there
was a connection problem to the phone, then ammend the initialization
string sent to the phone to see if it helps.

It did! Any Clie supplied phone utils connect OK with the modified
driver.

FunSMS still doesnt, so I suspect it uses it's own initialization.

Initial initialization string is
X1E0+CMEE=1;+CSCS="GSM";V1;+CGSMS=3;+CNMI=3,1,2,0,0

The modified string is
X1E0+CMEE=1;+CSCS="GSM";V1

So, I gather the extra ;+CGSMS=3;+CNMI=3,1,2,0,0 is interfering with
the new firmware.

I suspect that any software that causes the connect, disconnect
problem is send extra stuff the phone dont like!!

BT:
- Belkin's BT drivers and BT Manager,
- SMS Manager v1.0.6 (trial, expires soon :-(

I couldn't find any place where I can change initialization string.
Can you comment this?
