Whats the concensus on the Sanyo pm 8200?

Think I'm going out today to buy one. it looked good to me, seemed
substantial in quality, as far as build (No flimsy feel).

My local RS had one activated, so they let me test drive it, and sound
quality, loudness etc.. seemed good.
Is there any known problems with this phone? I know it's pretty new.
The RS said they JUST started getting them in.

anyone know what the latest software/firmware revision for this is?
and PRL?

or does phone make a difference for the PRL?

Some don't like the earpiece sound. I think it's okay at lower volumes,
sounding overdriven near the top of the volume range. Build quality is a
B+. It's not going to make you resent your iPod, but it is quite nice.
There's a tiny bit of play in the hinge when it's between open and
closed that you just don't find in the Samsung phones. I'm picky about
the user interface of anything, but this Sanyo earns a C. It's no
Samsung, but it's better than most Sanyos I've tried. Some menus are
navigable by pressing numbers, but other menus aren't. Sometimes the
softkeys aren't assigned in a logical order, so proceeding through a
task may have you alternating between left and right softkeys. They have
taken pains to give the menus a better look and easier navigation.
Colors don't remind me of the CGA palette. The polar bear has nice
antics. It does retain T9 for phone menus, but only until power cycle.
Some claim their handsets have the redialing bug, but I've not
experienced it. I've caused a handset reset three times. I'm a fairly
heavy data user, averaging about 2MB a day, untethered, so that's fewer
resets and better reliability than I'm used to. Some don't like the
keys, but I'm somewhat fond of them. I can't text by feel on this phone
- I have to look at the keys. The nice part is that they have a very
positive click and nice spacing, allowing both my thumbs to share the
buttons.

I'm very happy with mine.

I have had this phone for about two weeks now. It is a good quality
phone. It is a Sanyo so the quality is much better than Samsungs (in
my experience).

It is not quite as good as my Snayo 4900 was but then nothing else
really matched that that I have used.

I would grade it at a solid B+, has almost everything I want in a
phone (the only thing missing is a true PDA).

Agreed this is the best Sprint phone ever. The sound quality is the best
ever for a Sanyo. You do need to find the sweet spot tho

display, its mechanically the same and i loved them both. very good quality
phoen and ive had mine about a month and a half or so. I got it straight
off the market, the day my RS got them in, they sold out and I got the last
one.

The Sanyo 5400 has a 2.1" main screen and no camera.

The Sanyo 8200 has a 1.8" screen, camera and true SMS capability.

Both are Vision/ReadyLink phones.
