I keep getting calls on my Sprint phone from a 223 area code, which is
not the US. It's a nuisance, and Sprint claims they cannot block a
single number.

There is no way to block a specific number on the carriers end. SOME
cell phones have the capability to bar individual numbers, but the
feature is quite rare. Your options are pretty limited if you do not
have one of these phones. You could change your number, or, simply not
answer any call that you donot recognize the number. This type of
situation is not limited to sprint, none of the mobile phone carriers
in the US have this availability to block a particular number.

True, but many allow you to assign a specific ringtone to an individual
number. Just assign this number a special tone and you'll know not to
pick up the phone when it rings.

Maybe you need a "silent ringtone" for this purpose.

If its the same number every time, what do you tell them when you answer?

Do you answer the call??? I wouldn't, let them leave a mgs'. Ignore it
if they don't.
