Hi guys,

I thought I'd just add this info to the collective newsgroup pot so that
others can see what is (currently) achieveable from Vodafone as a
renewal deal if you push hard enough. (PLEASE NOTE: this only applies to
customers signed up direct with Vodafone, not via a third party service
provider - also, this only applies to customers whos monthly spend over
the past 3 months was in excess of £25/month as Vodafone aren't really
bothered in your continued custom if you spend less than that)

I know it might seem ironic that someone who maintains a website based
on purchasing new contracts with cashback should choose to extend his
own contract via negotiation with the network. However, I always like to
see how low I can push the network for a contract renewal before I
decide whether or not to go down the cashback route and Vodafone have
just offered me what I consider to be a cracker of a deal:

Free Sony Ericsson W900i
Anytime 400 + 50 texts (400 X-net anytime minutes + 50 texts)
12 month contract
£19/month for 12 months, £25/month thereafter
(the contract cancellable/renegotiable after 12 months)

As the closest equivalent online with a new contract (Anytime 350) is
£20/month for 9months and £40 thereafter I'd be mad not to accept the
renewal offer, especially as it doesn't involve any manual cashback claims.

One thing to note here is that Anytime 400 is no longer available to new
customers so you won't be able to get a deal at any price on this tariff
unless you are already on it (this tariff @ £25 per month was what
Vodafone was offering around 18-24 months ago to anyone threatening to
move to Three). However, it's possible that similar prices may be
achieved using a closest equivalent existing tariff...who knows.

How does this work?
===================

It's been said many times before but, for those as yet unfamiliar with
the mechanics of how this works, you need to ask Vodafone for your
porting authorisation code (PAC) to take your number elsewhere. When
asked why you're moving, simply say that there are much better deals to
be had elsewhere with cashback offered by the retailer.

You may be asked if you had any specific deal in your sights so you may
want to arm yourself with a tasty looking cashback deal on a tariff that
suits your usage (this is where my website - listed in my signature -
will come in handy).

At this point, you will probably be offered some kind of deal...however,
unless it is a particularly tempting offer, simply thank Vodafone and
insist on the PAC. More often than not, you will receive a call back
from Vodafone's "outbound" department over the next 24-48 hours whereby
whatever was offered on the previous call will be somewhat improved.
This is probably the best time to accept whatever's on the table.
