My current phone for Cingular (Samsung) has a broken screen, no image
but phone still works. I don't want to extend my contract with
Cingular (AT&T) so am looking elsewhere for an inexpensive, basic
phone. I read that you can get a prepaid phone at Walmart and then
have your own number and service ported to it. Does anyone know if
this is possible with Cingular? I'm also looking on eBay. Any
suggestions about getting one there? Thanks.

You can get a prepaid phone of your choice, put your SIM in it. It
will immediately function with your number. If you have stored your
contacts in the sim, they will also of course be visible.
You do not have to contact Cingular at all in this. Or, you can buy an
inexpensive phone on Ebay, but the prepaid ones are quite reasonable.
