Upgraded from t68i to t610 two weeks ago. Generally very pleased.
Contract with Orange.
One problem : if I try to send a text message get "SMS barred -saved to
unsent"
Now Orange have sent me a SIM update, got me to remove / replace battery,
check service centre number.
None of these actions helped. Two weeks later despite regular chasing and
empty promises from Orange that they will put their technical support people
on the case/call me back I am no nearer a resolution.
I would be interested to hear if anyone reading this newsgroup has any idea
why SMS is barred on my phone when everything else seems to work fine.
Suggestions on how to sort the problem will be much appreciated.
Many thanks
John

Try this, set network selection to "Manual", Attempt to register with a
network other than Orange (this will fail), register the phone back onto
Orange, reset network slection to "Automatic". what this does is force the
phone to query the HLR, which often fixes SMS problems.

thanks for your reponse Steve.
While I was (unsuccessfully!!) trying to locate the menu to set selection to
manual I stumbled across some sms settings under Connectivity/Datacomm/SMS
access.
Mine was set to GPRS. I changed it to GPS and lo and behold I can now send
text messages.
Now what I need to check is whether this fix is the correct solution to the
problem or have I set myself up for further trouble bearing in mind I use
GPRS WAP?
Again any comments would be appreciated
Many thanks

I think you mean that you've changed it to GSM, not GPS in which case you've
done the right thing, GSM is correct for SMS, it has no effect on your WAP
settings.

Thanks again Steve - yes I did mean GSM. I really must get round to
starting up an SOAS (Stamp Out Acronyms Society)!!
cheers
